SHOP SUSPENDED/TAX ID

So tired of not being able to get our shop open due to Etsy asking us to update our taxes. We have entered ALL of the information and no one is there to help or to RE OPEN our shop!! Its driving us crazy as we are missing out on potential sales. No one usually replies to your email until 2-3  days later. Every time Ive chatted or emailed with someone they just say they arent sure how long it will take to get this fixed but "someone is working on it". No. Its been over two weeks now and I've seen all of the discussion boards on here about this issue and it seems like a huge problem that Etsy needs to fix because they are making their sellers upset. THE PEOPLE WHO THEY MAKE MONEY FROM. It makes no sense, Like come on, someone figure this out please so we can help each other out!!

PLEASE #ETSY fix this problem. We have been selling for almost 3 years on your platform and this is our main source of income. If they have all of the legal documents then they should be able to update them so they are correct for their platform. WE NEED HELP ASAP!!!! PLEASE!

I check this thread almost every day and find more of us sellers are still in the same boat..  Same here, I was picking up on sales and without notice I hit $500 sales and didn't know I needed to update my tax id information.  They suspended my shop as well.  So frustrating too because I was looking forward to getting some more reviews for the orders I sent out.  Etsy Support says the exact thing to me as well.  There's a glitch or even worse that there is no timeframe when it will be back..  I worked so hard on my listings as well and to have a big site like Etsy say they don't even have a timeframe for when it will be fixed is ridiculous.   I started moving my listings to Shopify and created a website there.   Hoping we can all get some recognition from Etsy that sellers need priority for these issues.

I hit over $500 in sales in January. My shop did not get suspended until the first week of  March. I think something bigger is going on.

I was wondering, did you enter your son when you first started you shop? Did they say they suspended it because of tax information not going through/being correct? I'm just worried because I'm about to hit the threshold and am wondering if there's anything I can do to maybe prevent it, like put my information in early? I'm so sorry this is happening to you.

Yes, they have had my info 2016. They are saying it is a programming glitch related to the tax

Two words, CLASS ACTION. Etsy should have fixed this by now and by NOT handling this in a timely fashion EVERYONE affected can sue them for lost wages.

I tried opening up a second shop and went to put in all my correct tax payer information.  The one thing I noticed from opening this second shop is after putting in all the correct tax information there is no place to upload my government ID.  It already says verified.   I think this is why my first shop got temporarily suspended.  Without notice, I did not get information about having to do this nor was there a spot then to upload the government ID.  I'm thinking maybe after you hit the $500 sales that they ask for a picture of your government ID and suspend the account while doing this...

Everyone keeps talking about this $500 mark. I was only just beginning and had just listed one item. Etsy didn't even give me a chance to get out the gate before suspending my shop for tax ID. Everything was corrected within a day and like everyone else here, I got an email saying this:

I believe there is something bigger going on too and I'm not going to subject myself or my business to it. On the Trustpilot review website (I posted a link in the comments above), if you scroll down in the reviews of Etsy (mostly bad btw), you'll see there is talk of a class action lawsuit. 

I'm not going to waste anymore of my precious time here. This is ridiculously unprofessional. I have zero trust in this platform, so I've been laying the foundation for a shop on Shopify. I don't know how anyone can put their faith in a platform that'll pull the rug out from under you without any notice and just say "Sorry, we don't know when it'll be fixed 🤷‍"

Screw that.

I'm a new seller on Etsy and am experiencing the same thing. They stopped replying to my email IT ticket as well.

Notice they also removed the "call back" feature on help? It's like they have decided they absolutely don't want to talk to us. Go figure, I was on the phone for over an hour last Thursday with a help rep who eventually told me I had to call Social Security to "verify" my name and SSN... which have been the same for forever lol but whatever. The guy gave me a reference number and told me to just request another call back once I'd done that. Two hours on hold with SSA and a very confused rep there who basically told me yeah, your info is correct. So I go to request another etsy callback and POOF the option is gone... I've checked for the call back feature for days now and it never shows up.

Sorry, so frustrating.   They keep telling me my information is verified and correct.  However my shop says my name fors not natch my ss number, which it absolutely does.  Even etsy clarified it fir me and said it was correct and already verified.   So frustrating.

I FIGURED IT OUT!  I finally got my shop up in running today!  From reading previous posts back in 2022 in the Etsy community, this has been going on for awhile.

If you have a middle name, you MUST put that in next to your first name when you go to update the Tax ID information under sole prop.   It took about 10 minutes to refresh.  I also read deactivating the account and reopening it after that.  So I just put mine on vacation mode for five minutes and reopened it.  And all my listings are back active!    I hope this can help as I know how frustrating this really is!

Thanks!  I figured what do I have to lose since I had no communication back about my ticket.  It's been 3 weeks for me.   Tried several times phone calls to Etsy support as well.  They have told me too that mine was already verified as well.  I figured I'd give it another shot by adding my middle name and refreshing the page today.   It took a little bit before everything seemed to reactivate.

Could be coincidence, but yesterday I changed my name to ALL CAPS (since that's how's it's printed on my social security card) and it's now up and running this morning. Not sure if it was that switch or just timing, but maybe something for others to try!
