Please let this be a fixable bug: Someone just added one of my items to her favorites list, so, of course I had to check it out. Imagine my surprise when I saw that I now accept exchanges??! WTH? My policy is returns only….everywhere. This won’t end well.
@DivineCrossings I checked that listing - it only says returns accepted within 30 days - nothing about exchanges.
@NanaLetha @Thanks! But it’s still showing in this person’s favorites as exchanges accepted….nothing about returns at all.
I just noticed that she had placed the item in a specific category (“jewelry”) within her favorites. Generalized favorites by other shoppers don’t have anything noted other than price, shop name, etc. So strange.
In Policy Settings>Returns & Exchanges there is a sentence that says "tell buyers how you'll manage returns and exchanges for each of your listings. You can click on where is says "returns and exhanges", so assume each listing can be unique in that respect. I did not click on it...too afraid to mess with anything.
@SorellaSashes @That was the first thing I checked…on every listing and in general “returns only” is the only policy I’ve enabled. Exchanges never entered into it.
@DivineCrossings I'm seeing the same thing in a favorites collection with my item included. I don't accept exchanges but under my listing in that collection it says "exchanges now accepted"! I double checked my listing and it only says returns accepted.
@NanaLetha @Sorry it’s happened to you, too, but at least I know I’m not going crazy! Lol.
I just finished a totally frustrating and absolutely fruitless chat with what Etsy calls “customer service”. She kept trying to tell me how to add policies, insinuating that I don’t know what I’m doing. Then, had the unmitigated gall to get snippy with me. Ugh! Talk about adding insult to injury.
I checked your necklace on that person's favorites and yes, seeing exchanges (nothing about returns) even tho the listing says only returns. So I checked one of mine that was recently fav'd and apparently I too accept exchanges (and again, nothing about returns except on the listing page). What would they exchange it for? It's vintage and I only have that one figurine atm. So what would they exchange it for, a book?
@TheVintagePineapple @It’s crazy, right? I don’t do exchanges because my items are OOAK and I don’t want to mess around with price differentials. It’s even worse for you as a vintage seller!
It’s also in the order confirmations of the Etsy Transactions email, I don’t accept exchanges yet in the confirmations it says “Contact the seller to return or exchange your item” which is ridiculous, it should only say return, not also the word exchanges.
They just throw out their standard text for all orders I guess, misleading information I find.
@DivineCrossings - I must say that I love how you titled this post! The main reason I check forums each day is to see what is screwed up/going wrong on a daily basis! (And to sometimes get a good chuckle!)
@timelapse @lol…happy to be of service! : ))
Definitely annoying to have your settings changed. But how big of an issue can this be really?
I have returns enabled and no one has EVER asked for one. I doubt many people are going to go to the trouble and hassle of a back and forth mail order exchange. Wouldn't they have to pay same as a return?
Again, I know it's annoying when Etsy does this stuff but I think it is probably a big nothing burger. I doubt very much you will be flooded with people suddenly wanting to exchange things.
@TickleYourWitch @Returns are not the problem - my policy is to accept returns. Exchanges are the problem. As noted above I sell OOAK with varying prices so exchanges are a PITA. My worry is that with gift-giving season, exchange requests are more likely. It’s easy to do returns AND exchanges when there are 15 of each item in a shop available. Not so easy when each item is different. I also resent Etsy giving customers incorrect information that may lead to problems for me. I don’t think it’s a frivolous concern.
”I doubt very much you will be flooded with people suddenly wanting to exchange things.” Thanks…I think you just jinxed me. Lol.
I hope I didn't! Lol. I know this stuff is aggravating. I just expect glitches and then I'm never surprised. Lol
Stupid question .... how do we even DO exchanges? I have never in all my years here had anyone ask for one. I've had a few returns and those went smoothly; they sent the items back and I refunded when I got it.
Is there no listing involved? What about the shipping?
@OneEyeCatStudio @The logistics are too much for my burned- out brain to even think about, hence, the returns only policy, lol.
@DivineCrossingsthank you!
I thought since Etsy suggests it there would be a plan for it, but I can't find it anywhere.
@OneEyeCatStudio @Shocker!
I do exchanges and have had to do a few. Usually it is because they do not know the size of their dog. Everyone seems to think a "guess" is OK
Every single time it has been a size exchange--they send back the size small for the size XL they really need. (And pay the difference in price).
I don't accept exchanges on diapers for sanitary reasons.
@ThePurplePuppy so you make a listing for the additional cost and shipping?
@ThePurplePuppy “I don't accept exchanges on diapers for sanitary reasons.”
lolololol…I just can’t! I assume returns would also be problematic : )
Yes
and:
Believe it or not there are doggie STDs--mainly brucellosis which is contagious to humans if you come in contact with body fluids. While rare, it can happen. In dogs (because it is a zoonosis) they are usually euthanized once diagnosed--in humans it becomes chronic for life.
Brucellosis in cattle is the reason our milk is pasterized altho today most dairy cows are vaccinated .
Therefore, I don't do diaper or belly band exchanges.
ETA: I sometimes (rarely) take returns on diapers but yes, if the mistake is mine. Once received back I refund but do not resell the item. I usually have them send it back just to make sure it is an honest mistake and not a ploy to get the item free. I have even made some mistakes on repeat buyers and with them I just replace without a return--and this has only happened once that I can recall.
@DivineCrossings
I added the item to my favorites and just saw "returns accepted".
But I went to the favorites link on the listing and I see exchanges accepted where the other person added the item to their favorites.
ETA: I don't see returns accepted though.
On some of that persons favorites and I see returns and exchanges excepted or returns and exchanges NOT accepted but on your item, just "exchanges excepted".
That is just crazy but not surprising.
