Hi teammates,

You guys have some super creative shop names that I love, but I often find myself wondering what the story behind them is. What do you like about your shop name? How does it relate to your business? Is there a funny anecdote behind it? Is it a pun? Is it a tribute to someone special to you? Did you have a different name before switching to your current one? How do you think customers interpret your name?

I'll go first. I got the name Sassafras from a good friend of mine who always called me Sassafras when I said anything that was a little snarky. I also have a passion for botany, so a plant name just felt like a perfect fit for me.

Now it's your turn. Share your stories and thoughts in this thread!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

I opened this Etsy store years ago {it had a different name then} and I sold whatever I enjoyed making at the time. I know not a way to run a successful business. We moved a couple years ago and I closed shop.

I told myself i would never reopen an online store unless I was 100% behind my work. It had to come from the heart, I had to have passion about it and I had to have enough confidence in myself that I would use my own name without hesitation. No more putting effort into mediocre things. Well... I reopened my shop!
I have many artistic styles, This style in particular are my favorite. I've been sketching him for years. Funny thing was years ago, I'd be doodling him while trying to come up with great creative business idea. When I reopened and I used my name, well initials my name as a store was already taken. IT all feel great. I'm working on branding and making a successful coherent business and I'm absolutely loving it.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Hello everyone....the name My Threads Needlework comes from my husband, who always called my ongoing needlework projects "my threads." It just seemed a natural extension to use this in my shop name. I do think that sometimes people doing searches think I do machine embroidery for team shirts, jackets, and such though!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Its refreshing to hear all your stories! So here is mine. I always loved the personalized stuff. for my thirteenth birthday my father gave me a pocket knife with my name on it. I still treasure it today. About the memento part, One of the event planners Im hooked up with, kept on repeating she wants some extra ordinary mementos. I liked the ring of it, and 'Personalized Memento' was born.

My shop name WordsThatMove is because that perfectly describes what I create! I design digital prints with a variety of quotes and inspirational words for dancers, for either the professional or those who are dancers at heart :)

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

My shop name "Gone Coastal Designs" is a pun from the term "gone postal". Years ago for some reason random postal employee were going a little crazy and doing crazy things (I don't remember what they did it was so long ago) so that's where that term came from. I'm crazy about the coast and all things coastal so that's where my shop name came from.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

We are Blue Cabin Candles. Why? I was looking for a larger place to create our candles and wax melts...I looked at our "shed" in the back yard and thought to myself its a cute little Blue Cabin. Hey, we should change the name of our business to Blue Cabin Candles!
We were originally Southern Creek Candles but after meeting new candle makers that named their company something similar and ran their business terribly--people were confusing us for them. So a new name, new shop, new recipe and we are good to go!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Hi all! I love this thread!

My shop is Too Rad Vintage. The origin story? More than once while out scouting for inventory, I've unearthed some vintage item that totally speaks to me, and in my excitement exclaimed, "Oh, man! This is too rad!"

My logo incorporates a radiation trefoil into the middle of "rad," because, you know, atomic age stuff. :) So, there you have it- Too Rad Vintage.

My daughter and I brainstormed and came up with my name, A Perfect Gem. My shop is filled with gemstone jewelry, therefore it seemed to fit my brand. I also wanted something that would be good for SEO.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

I originally wanted just my first name, but it was taken. A fellow Etsy friend told me... "you should call it Danialy Dreams, it's always been your dream to have a store".

That was it :)

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Since my son was a young teenager (he's in his thirty's now) he has called me MooMoo. He likes everyone to have a nickname and I could not discourage him from this one no matter what I said. Now my daughter-in-law and my grandchildren call me MooMoo too! So the family decided on my name for the shop, since I was clueless: MooMooHandmadeCards. I really liked the name before, but now I feel kinda guilty since I do not invest my time into making cards like I used to.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Hi Tess,

This is such a great post and I do really enjoy reading anyone of your story behind the shop name.
My shop is called MySimpleYetChic. The reason I named my shop is because I love simple but chic jewelry. I always want to make my pieces simple but chic at the same time. Also, one of my favorite fashion and beauty YouTuber is Chriselle Lim. She always use "Stay Chic" to end her video. So, it is the story behind my shop name.

Cheers. Hope everyone has a wonderful one!!

-Cathy

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Such fun stories!

About my shop name: a while back three of us (our mom, my sis and I) wanted to have a brand together. The name is our three names combined
Lu-dmila
Na-dia
Vi-ka
As life had it my mom isn't part of our handmade selling anymore as she can't handle pressure and I gave my first shop to my sis as it's already established and opened this one myself.
Felt is added to give a clue to what I make :)

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

I wanted to come up with something that connected with Ireland in a slightly quirky way. So, "mmmm (yum)Irish" or "my!!!Irish" and it became "mIrish". Unfortunately, that was taken (although it doesn't appear to be used) so I simply added my hometown of Dublin :) It's a little different, but maybe not memorable.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

InHattiesAttic is named after my great grandmother Hattie. My grandmother taught me everything i know about creating these unique handmade dolls & keeps all her crafting supplies in the attic. Having the skills passed down from one generation to another it only seemed fitting to name the shop after her and i couldn't be more proud of it!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

My last name is Swan and I am a cut paper illustrator. When I first opened my shop I decided to name it PaperSwans which was also the name of my blog. The shop sat empty for years. I morphed into a digital collage artist with drawers and drawers of papers that I no longer needed. I started making paper beads, then paper bead jewelry, then jewelry with gemstones (a.k.a. rocks) and every/anything else.

So I changed the name to RocksandPapersSwans and officially opened a jewelry shop. I'm not sure that anyone gets the connection but it is such an odd name people seem to remember it.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Although I go by my middle name Justin, my first name is Dana. It sounded better to me than Justin to express my art. So Dana Arts it is. :)

Although I mainly sell jewelry, someday I'd like to continue adding my hobbies and crafts to the mix (coil pots, leather work, etc).

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

The items in our shop are creations that bring help bring moments of serenity to my day when I make each one, design them, or make the photographs or images.

A Moment of Serenity seemed appropriate for our Etsy store; bringing back the simplicity and peaceful moments to even the most hectic days.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

I started my shop about 5 years ago but only recently started selling full time. I sell handmade bullet jewelry and accessories and I could not for the life of me come up with something that wasn't overly Southern or super cheesy. My best friend was brainstorming with me and all of a sudden "Katie Got a Gun" popped out of her mouth. We looked at each other and both knew that she'd nailed it. It's actually the first thing people comment on when I hand them a business card. I love it!!
