Hi teammates,

You guys have some super creative shop names that I love, but I often find myself wondering what the story behind them is. What do you like about your shop name? How does it relate to your business? Is there a funny anecdote behind it? Is it a pun? Is it a tribute to someone special to you? Did you have a different name before switching to your current one? How do you think customers interpret your name?

I'll go first. I got the name Sassafras from a good friend of mine who always called me Sassafras when I said anything that was a little snarky. I also have a passion for botany, so a plant name just felt like a perfect fit for me.

Now it's your turn. Share your stories and thoughts in this thread!

Mine is really quite simple - I live on Bear Mountain Road in the middle of the western Maine mountains! I've been crocheting for more than forty years, so when I created the name about 15 years ago, it was a easy decision!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Since my jewelry features vintage watch parts, Time seemed to fit, of course I dismantle the watches so "Killing Time" was also a possible choice. The name of the shop does not improve my views so maybe I've missed the mark!

As an artist, I always was taught to really study an object. I have found that things aren't' always like they first appear... a green pear has shades of purple in it! That is where my name came from. When I first opened my Etsy site I was selling only pastel drawings. I've since expanded but I still like the name!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Interesting stories. My shop name started out as BearyAmazing, then I had changed it to BearyAmazingEmporium (just trying to make it sound more business like, with the emporium) ... a pun (trying to be cute) on Very, using Beary, instead; and Amazing because of all of my health problems, in the past, where the doctors had told my family that I was going to die, each time; I, of course, proved them wrong, you see that I'm still here ... BearyAmazing!

The name that I have now, for my shop; I came up with for branding/marketing purposes ... my shop stems from my real name, and for my creations, that I do, etc.: Shar for Sharon (my first name), Phar for Pharms (my last name), and Made because, anything that I make, was made by ME! M is also, part of my last name ... Pharm(s). See ... so, you have SharPharMade (aka sharpharmade). ;-)

My shop name is Ciutecreations, CIUTE - is the last part of my last name - VolkaviCIUTE - which in Lithuanian shows that the girl is unmarried :) I am married now, but I like it because that is how my grandpa always called me and my sister:CIUTE, come here!! I thought it is cute

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

I am inspired by the folklore of the world-intensive colors, stripes, flowers are pure joy to my eye and heart.I love russian babushkas, they are cheerful, colorful, kind of magical-as my shop is.Babushka is a name for russian old women-for me it is a symbol of womenhood's wisdom, warmth and tradition-when I think about Babushka I can almost feel the taste and smell of my grandmother's soups .Baba also is a funny way to call a women in my language-polish.So the shop's name is a mixture of associations that came to my mind when I was thinking about my brand.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Finding (and sticking to) a name is a tough call! I started with another one, Figurate Shop, because my shop is about figurines. Then I switched to By Mary Galou because that's my alias online. My real name is María and Galou is a combination of my two last names (we use them both in Spain).

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

I had such a hard time coming up with a name for my shop. It actually took me about two months to come up with one!. Which was fine as it took me about that long to 'build' and open my shop up too. Then I started thinking about, and playing with words that describe the processes and techniques I use to create my items. I make bows and sometimes loops with ribbon. Originally it was going to be 'Bow Loopi Designs, but then thought 'BoLoopi' looked smarter :-)

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

I was looking frantically for a name one day for my organic goodies. I bought a tiny little french dictionary at a rummage sale a few years back. So... glancing through this little book, I found the word "nuage," which means "cloud" in french. I'm naturally obsessed with Paris and the Eiffel Tower and I also love how pretty all the clouds look.. it just stuck. :)

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

My shop name comes from always wanting to turn my hobbies into something more. Since it was a pipe dream for so long I decided to dedicate that for part of the name for my shop. The charms part of the name came because I plan on sell a variety of things in the shop that don't necessarily fit into one category(like many of my hobbies). Since many of the things I end up making come from me seeing something the store and saying "I bet I could make that for less!" Love reading all the other stories of how everyone came up with their names for their shops! It adds much more meaning to what we do! Keep them coming!

All these shop name stories are so fun!
My shop name is Simply Lyon. I wanted something that said "this is me". My last name is Lyon and simply seemed to be a perfect addition to it. Most everything in my shop is made on an artistic whim...when I fell inspired....so everything is "Simply Lyon". ❤

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Hi all,

My shop name Craft Niche Dili came from a few ideas and things in my life - Craft (because I do more crafts than jewelry), Niche - the place to be me, and Dili - well, this is shorten version of my mothers name (the one that children use to call her).
Small tribute to my crafts that I have in my place and honor to my mother that raised me :)

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Fascinating thread - so cool to read the stories behind shop names!

I was born and raised in Germany so I wanted a shop name that connected to that. Schicki Micki means hoity toity in German and I love how it sounds! I added the "The" after not being able to find a unique shop name :)

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Aside from my new Etsy shop, I manage my boutique wedding and lifestyle portrait photography company. The grand vision is to have teams located around the globe with one central hub for processing. Thus, along with a fellow photographer we turned the "I LOVE [Insert City Name]" around to make it "[Insert City Name] LOVES ME". Hence Playaloves.me and my fellow photog's Barcelonaloves.me. From there I've opened this Loves.me brand shop on Etsy. The idea being to bring in on the great landscape and fine art photography pieces that we capture while shooting weddings, etc on location from any and all locations and be able to offer them as art!

Well my story is really simple I decided to call Florencehandmade because I was making hanmade?handcrafted jewellery in Florence, Italy. Now that after 10 wonderful years of living in Florence I moved to Sydney, Australia as I found my soul mate I was thinking of changing the shop name but I'm too attached to Italy that I don't think I will :)

My last name is the core of it. My thought was that I will eventually convince the other creatives in my family to join in and add some things to my shop in hopes to inspire them to open their own. Many in my family are closet creatives and haven't found the time, the confidence, to take it to another level.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Hello!
My shop title story came from my activities when I had to develop websites for my artworks, and passwords. I used : Laikme- Like me; Laimutesgallery. The first name of this shop was - LaimutesGUDBREF, that means - good breath. But after I thought it is too long and better for perfume products. So I decided to bee LaimutesHDJ- home decor and jewelry.
Best regards for everyone.✳✳✳✳
