We've just posted two very important blog posts, please go read them now! We (the Payments team) are really excited that we can finally share this news with all of you!

The first is a huge announcement for us--Etsy will soon be offering Gift Cards! All shops accepting direct checkout will also be able to accept Etsy Gift Cards, so you're all set. We're also giving you guys free card processing for the entire month of September! This means you'll save over 3% on every DC order.

Post is here: http://www.etsy.com/blog/news/2012/announcing-etsy-gift-cards/

The second is a big update on what's happening with direct checkout right now, and some additions and features we have planned for the future.

That post can be found here: http://www.etsy.com/blog/news/2012/an-update-on-direct-checkout/

Camilla and I will be answering questions in the two threads associated with these announcements, so if you have any questions feel free to head over!

I hope you are excited as we are!

Re: Gift Cards are coming!

I'm very excited about this long awaited feature. I am wondering how it will work if a shop ownder uses Gift Cards as promotional items for their shop. Will we still be charged Direct Checkout Fees? Will there be other fees associated with Gift Cards?

THANK YOU!

Do I understand that the fees will be waved for the month of September? Or, is it from now (August 30th) till the last day of September?
----------
It's starting a little bit early. Anyone with DC sales from the last few hours (since yesterday afternoon) will notice that the Fees column in their Shop Payment Account have a "--".

Re: Gift Cards are coming!

Excited about gift cards! Excited about the September fee deduction! Excited that shipping labels will be able to be deducted from our direct bill in October instead of being added to our Etsy bill!

Thank you to those who are working hard to make this all happen. Sometimes our opinions really do count!

Cheers!

Re: Gift Cards are coming!

I have to admit to being something of a cheerleader on this whole topic :P i'm more of a positive/optimistic thinker anyways.since the announcement I've already converted my hubs and 3 other shops into at least signing up for DC for the option! I'm seriously looking forward to seeing how this plays out and what kind of boost it brings.

Thank you for such a lead time into the holidays on the gift certificates (not gift cards, there isn't a card, just a number lol), and for the update on the chance for preship deposits.

Re: Gift Cards are coming!

Does the money for gift cards appear immediately in our shop payment account or is there a wait time?

Very excited!

Re: Gift Cards are coming!

Gift Cards sound wonderful. But I'm a little confused as to the amount and how it applys to each shop. Question? If a customer purchases $25 and they are using a $50 gift card, does that mean we will need to refund the difference or will this be done by Etsy at time of check out?

Thank you for the response.

Re: Gift Cards are coming!

Kathy the gift cards will be sold by Etsy, not individual shops. If they use less than the full value of the card, it stays on their card. There is nothing a shop owner will need to do.

Re: Gift Cards are coming!

Thank you Nora, I look forward to the gift cards, especially now I know where I will be doing all my holiday shopping. A great idea for friends and family that love handmade. I think Etsy will be delighted with the new traffic coming to Etsy.
