Let's get some ideas
Maybe it would be good to keep our paintings of a single item (animal, flower, tree etc.) or still life of no more then 3 items.
It will be fun to see how different our paintings will be
I mentioned about painting a single rose......I have photos of single rose buds and will choose one to send to everyone if a rose is chosen. If your idea is chosen by the participants then you must send the photo to all of us.
So I'll start the suggestions and if you like the idea then add your vote to the number in the ( ).
If you have an idea then put your idea as #2 and after your idea put (1) since you are voting for you idea....ideas not chosen can be used for our next challenge. Make sure you copy & paste the list with your vote or your idea.

1. single rose bud (1)
2.
3.
4.
5.
Please read instructions above (the first post)

Re: Challenge

That's alright Trish ~ I teased myself.
Suggested Winter or Christmas image as a plausible destressor for those in the seasonal rush. :0
I'm blessed to begin a custom order myself. It will be a challenge in itself .
Umph, nice to know the O'Keefe is a Go for the New Year then. Was merely resigning from my original post in the event it wasn't appealing for most.
I like that idea Donnarose ~ making it a card.

Re: Challenge

I was planning to make my Georgia O'Keefe a poinsettia so mine will be both Christmassy as well as O'keefey.

Re: Challenge

My very first painting was a copy of an O'Keef orchid which took me at least 3 months . . . A visiting relative was mid sentence when he covered his eyes and said omg what is that. When another friend commented that it looked like the pictures at her clinic I decided to paint over it. Kind of bruised my ego for a very long time. . . . All try not to shock the crowds this time <3

Re: Challenge

On secon thoughts . . . Before Christmas . . Are you all a bit mockadoor. . . I.e. Crazy. . . . I am in the middle of a tee pee for the young boy grandchild as the one I have has a definite female look I.e. Frilly and sparkly. That is the tent . . . Not the grandchild. When is the final date that we are talking about?

Re: Challenge

Nora, I had to laugh at your comments about your first painting!! Nobody ever saw some of my first paintings!!!
Besides... O'Keefe cannot be copied, there's a little of her soul in each one!

So true! I admire her being a rebel and finally doing what she wanted to do. She was capable of mastering a lot of images and chose her own.

Nora, your story of your own Georgia style reminds me of my remembrances of the rose that I did not submit.

Nora, give us an update on your teepee f/ grandchild painting. Must tell you of my 15 year old son scavenging along our creekbed and harvested wild bamboo and he made his own tee pee in the backyard. We had random neighborhood boys knocking on the door to see the tee pee because you could see it from the rooftops. Amazing defeat for a young boy, wouldn't you say? I didn't scold him for running amock of the creekline which was forbidable! We never invested in the canvas but it was a mighty skeleton of a teepee for years.

BTW, I did not flake this time on the card. I am making a rushed attempt of holiday wrapping paper. Will share somehow later via FB I guess? Just for the record. Hah!

Re: Challenge

I am bringing this thread back to the top. I don't want us to forget about it with all the holiday "busy-ness".

I hope we can get more of our team mates to join in! The last Challenge, I didn't want to do... however, by committing myself to "come up" with something, I actually created a small painting that I want to re-visit later on a much larger scale!

I find when attempting a challenge based on someone else's idea, you might actually find a new theme for your own paintings!!

So far, I believe that sherischart suggestion of a single flower, ala O'Keefe style is winning for the next one. (sorry Donna, I still don't know how to copy and paste the thread here). Keep it in mind folks!!

Re: Challenge

Sorry Trish . . . The tee pee was not a painting but the real thing. . . Have posted it on my African Granny Facebook page for you to have a look. Will post the pattern in my shop in the new year.

Loved your story of the tee pee in your garden.

Back to art . . . I may not have the time to do the challenge as my daughter is visiting from Australia and only leaves on the 27 Jan. . . Though I did manage to do the last one in two days . . . Still can't believe that. . . So who knows. . . May find the time. . .

Have an an amazing Christmas everyone.

Re: Challenge

Someone mentioned that you'd like to see some male participation ... so I will give you the Christmas present of the typical male observations and input (you may recognize this kind of help/no help from your personal relationships) ... with reading the suggested paintings and without reading names, it's pretty easy to guess that this group is made up of all/mostly all you lovely ladies. I know this because I don't have any interest in painting any of those suggested things. What would I like to paint? ... I don't know, something else. Now do you recognize the average male help? If I had to choose I would paint the single tree with leaves and that's my vote. I will give it a try just to get out of this block thing. This entry is meant in good humor and not a nastygram ... I do enjoy reading your enthusiasm.

Re: Challenge

Yay Paul! Glad to have you join in. Believe me, I don't want to do any of the subjects either.... because none of them are my strong point. I'm not even sure what my strong point would be. But, I'm one who enjoys a challenge, and it is kind of fun to figure out what I will do with any given subject matter. It's a mind game for me. It's also a lot of fun to see what everyone else does. So many talented people here, no 2 paintings come out the same!

Paul great that you will join in with us lovely ladies.
Sorry Paul but looks like our January challenge is a flower of your choice in the style of O'Keefe.
Sheri we'll add our own soul.

Re: Challenge

Well, I was holding out for the tree with leaves, too Paul, lol. Maybe in February... Though, Trish you're right... challenging ourselves helps us to grow!

Off to tend to some my sick 2 year old and then to finish up a red tree landscape.

Re: Challenge

Hi all, things got really busy and jammed, and am now home. My oldest son got married the 21st!! Then celebrated Christmas with the extended family that came across the country for the wedding.

Reading your stories with amusement.

Hi Paul, you weren't interested in painting a dog that's moving???

Before we could leave for the wedding, i had to paint that commissioned one of the dog leaping into the water (profile). Photo was out of focus, composition boring, I didn't know what to do. Asked her for more profile pics of the dog, so I could at least tell what it looked like...AND she sent pics of the dog lying down, dog turned away from the camera, dog looking toward the camera. She had no clue what was needed. Time was running out so I just painted the painting, and told her I'd paint another when I came back if she didn't like it. Haven't connected with the customer, so holding my breath...

It's fun to post to ya'll, cause you can appreciate it. Next time I'll ask to see the photo first before I agree!
