Re: Falling into October with the Chatty Metalsmiths

Sorry about your loss Erin.

Beef stew sounds like a great choice, especially with the kind of weather we're having. Hot cider anyone?

Re: Falling into October with the Chatty Metalsmiths

Ha, I'd be enjoying beef stew with dumplings all by myself.

I honestly can't recall my mother ever asking what we'd like.....she cooked something, we ate it. Spoiled enough having someone cook for you, in my world.

Re: Falling into October with the Chatty Metalsmiths

I like to cook but these two are incredibly fussy.
Considering I can't eat much myself while adjusting to NO teeth I thought beef stew was a reasonable chewable compromise.

The arthritis in my jaw and 30 yrs of Dilantin finally resulted in total dentures. They aren't easy to adjust to considering my jaw is arthritic too.

OK enough whining....

Re: Falling into October with the Chatty Metalsmiths

Oh, man, Erin - you've had a run of family stressors. Hope your sales ease the pain a bit. Do you have a link to your website? I'd love to see it.

Stew and dumplings sound good to me. I don't know why I've a,ways reserved the dumplings for chicken. It's still too summery here to think about those winter comfort foods.

I do a lot of work with families of alcoholics and this is a weekend for all of N. Florida with about 300 participants

That sounds like a big conference Terri. Great work being done by people like you, families need recovery as much as the person with the problem does.

Re: Falling into October with the Chatty Metalsmiths

I love chili - it's still humid here, so beef stew is as hearty as I want to get right now.

www.heartsabustin.com - I still have title adjusting I need to do, but it's in pretty good shape.

Re: Falling into October with the Chatty Metalsmiths

Kathy - My son in law in PA and his family all hunt. My daughter in law works for the local butcher- score- I get all the venison I want nicely packaged as ground, chops, tenderloin and steaks. I tried ordering farm raised once- it just wasn't the same flavor - it could have been elk, bison or whatever. All the farm raised stuff tastes the same to me. I grew up on game so I want that same flavor I'm used to.

Erin- it really is looking nice- I am so liking the ear cuff designs, I may have to order one- I like the stamps you used.

Re: Falling into October with the Chatty Metalsmiths

I have a brand new IPad pro that I can't get my fingers to use just yet. I use Siri a bit but I always default to my standalone or laptop because I like the screen better than my iphone.

My standalone has that frikken virus that caused all files to be encrypted and even the Geek squad people could NOT remove.

Time for an ipad learning curve, I'm told I won't miss my desktop at all once I get it working.

Really nice to have a source for good wild venison. We have lots of hunters here too but no one likes much but the smoked deer sausage my bro makes.

The ear cuffs are so fun. A great way to use up small bits of silver.

You're welcome, Kathy. Those blues are just amazing.

Re: Falling into October with the Chatty Metalsmiths

Hey all. Happy October! Having a really off and weird day. Weekend even.
First, somehow got mixed up and thought this was my last weekend at work. Nope, next weekend. Was all excited lol. Its ok. Just one more week.

Second-studio wise going nuts. Really need to deep clean and reorganize not just my bench but the whole studio. Every turn I make I'm dropping something, knocking something over, flipping something across the room. Then I get frustrated looking for things every step and a half. So now I'm on break.

Third- while on break, weird phone call from an energy company. As far as I'm concerned it was a human sounding robot (like the pre recorded) that responded to you. Response delay way too long and the second "okay" response was exact match for first in tone, intonation, duration etc.
When I said "for a robot your a sophisticated guy" there was a delay, then an alarming laugh followed by "What would make you think I'm a robot?"

Immediate freaky.

So I told him "well, just how it is these days. Ah! Need to go, those 2 deer out there are getting into a blood bath" (I don't know. First thing that came to mind that semi-matched creep level. My brain is tired.) Hung up.

I know it was a robot. We've gotten similar types of calls with human recording ones. But the freak level was a bit too real with the delay, and then laugh. Voice creeped me out. Something about it all just makes me uneasy.
I looked up the phone number. Its elsewhere in NY and came from an address that is a clothing boutique. No energy company around. The company the robot claimed to be with is a scam green energy company. Many reports of spam calls and harassment on lookup.

Re: Falling into October with the Chatty Metalsmiths

some of those robocalls are freaky Jay, that one sounds like it is way off the freak-o-meter

Do you use an earring mandrel Erin? The stones are a really pretty blue.

I just splurged. With winter coming, and accepting the reality that I need one if I am going to continue to use our upstairs for finishing.
I've been using a shop vac hooked up to my machine with duct tape .

The noise is getting so annoying.
These are supposed to be very quiet.

Re: Falling into October with the Chatty Metalsmiths

Happy Oct!

I hope everything is OK with your kitty, Laura.

Kathy, is your difficulty using your ipad because you have difficulty coordinating some of the fine finger movements that tell it what to do?

I am hoping that hurricane stays out to sea and that the people living in the Caribbean are able to safely weather the storm.

I get to get back to work for a bit today! My hand is 90 percent better and my acetylene is ready to be turned on and tested for leaks. I am always nervous the first few times I use a new tank and like to do my soldering outside until I decide everything is working properly and seems stable. The new looking tank is very reassuring after some of the worn looking rust buckets I have had to rely on in past years. But I still may decide to set it up so the tank is outside and the gas just comes in from the outside.

Re: Falling into October with the Chatty Metalsmiths

Yes Dreia it is the scrunching movements that cause me problems as well as no strength in my fingers yet. I don't have the strength to push the take picture button , I'm looking into a proper remote. I know that sounds bizarre but this disease is bizarre. Some joints are 100% improved, others not at all. I guess that is typical though,

I've only ever used acetylene in the form of MAPP gas and it resides outside. I can count the times on one hand that I've used it this summer. My two butane torches and the plumbers' torch seem to be enough for silver but not stubborn heavy copper.

Re: Falling into October with the Chatty Metalsmiths

I haven't been able to post new stuff to facebook so I'm posting from memories and I knew it might lead to some enquiries from locals. So now the dilemma.

A former wholesale customer wants to place a large order for the disc cut sterling silver jewelry she used to stock. I told her the price has gone up 30% to cover our exchange yada yada but she would still like to place the order. No time crunch. I can even deliver a few at a time.

I know I can't cut more than a few discs at a time but I can teach someone to do it . I guess that is the same as buying precuts right?

Re: Falling into October with the Chatty Metalsmiths

Kathy, can you ask someone else to crank out some discs for you? You could anneal the sheet and give instructions and they just do the hammering.

Just a thought..
