Etsy sent me a duplicate of the first message from an already resolved conversation. Customer and I were both happy, and she gave me a great review.
The duplicate message started a new conversation, which did not connect to the thread we had started, and was not really from the customer. I did not see it soon enough to respond within the 24 hour timeframe, and support was not able to understand that the customer did not send it, because I had already met her to give her her item. She had no reason to send this second message, and did not respond to my response to her, as she surely would have if there were still an issue.
As the message should have not been sent to me a second time, I hate to get a ding for not responding fast enough.
Can anyone think of anything that would help me with this?
No, as Etsy will not correct anything having to do with star seller. Even if it is a duplicate or a glitch that seends a duplicate (and I have had this happen also) you MUST respond or send it to spam. If there is a glitch either against you or in your favor you just have to live with it.
Mark the duplicate message as spam and it won't count.
Etsy groups messages from the same person and only the first message in the thread counts ... so as long as you see this 'duplicate' in the thread it won't count against the star seller.
Etsy started grouping messages a few months ago ... it changes the message stats significantly ... I get multiple messages a day, most are from repeat buyers so now my Star Seller message response score is based on 13 messages over a 3 month period. It used to be around 90 messages over a 3 month period.
Check the little file you can download and if this message does count against you, you can mark it as spam and it will stop counting against you.
And I often think I'm getting wacky messages because when I click on a thread it always shows the middle of the thread. I have to remind myself to scroll down to the bottom.

I think what happened was that a message that should have been in the thread started a new message. It showed up late (stuck in the ether somewhere?) and as the customer already had her item, I didn’t react fast enough to it, because I didn’t realize it was not in the thread, and would count as a new message. That was my fault, and I will have to be more vigilant.
