The last two multiple item orders I've had in the US (where I ship from), Etsy has automatically made two identical labels for the shipment and charged me twice, forcing me to request a refund for the second, unasked-for, label.
What is going on? I've checked my shipping settings and don't see anything there that needs to be changed.
There is no need for you to buy both labels. X out the one you don’t need
ETA: I just noticed that you have free shipping on all of your items.
So I'm not sure how Etsy is figuring multiple postage labels since shipping is free that is unless the buyer is selecting the "Priority upgrade" and it might have something to do with the info below under #2.
This usually only happens when calculated shipping is not set up correctly.
So this info below probably won't help.
If you're using calculated shipping and Etsy has multiple postage labels it's because of how you have shipping set up.
You can X out (or click the trash can) to delete labels you don't need.
Multiple labels are generated usually due to these 2 issues:
#1 putting the box size instead of the item size.
Item dimensions are the item + any padding ONLY. Not the size box/mailer you're mailing it in.
If you fold/roll the item, use that size.
If you double box you'd use the smaller boxes size.
#2 Not having a variety of box/mailer sizes listed in package preferences not only for one item to fit in but for multiple items to fit in.
If there is not a package listed large enough for the calculator to suggest to hold all items, then shipping is figured on each item.
The calculator uses your item dimensions to suggest a package size from your list in package preferences or one of Etsy's common box sizes.
Thanks for the replies, I appreciate the help. I may be so used to clicking quickly to pay and print the label (I don't get multiple item sales very often) that I'm missing the part to click out of the second label. I'll try to remember to be more cautious in future with multiple item orders.
Neither of these buyers selected a Priority upgrade. (Or, if they did, Etsy shipping didn't relay that information to me!) Pretty annoying that Etsy enables this to happen, though. The invoice shows two items in one order, there's no good reason for two labels to be generated.
If you are doing calculated, make sure that your package/ box is big enough to accommodate the multiple items, that is usually why the second label pops up because the package is too small to hold the multiple item order.
Huh. I ship in Tyvek envelopes that are pretty much the size of the object (clothing) folded up. I guess I'll need to estimate extra large package sizes for each of my items then? Seems absurd. I don't understand why a site the size of Etsy can't make things simple.
Thanks for the suggestion!
