Hi! I am new to etsy and still trying to learn the platform. A few days ago i finished and uploaded a listing to be on sale, yet when I uploaded my thumbnail image which is perfectly 1:1 ratio, at the listing page it crops it to 462x366 whatever ratio is it, it a horizontal rectangle. But when i view this listing on my shop’s page, image is still cropped to these dimensions and it is also streched back to 1:1 ratio as the thumbnail on shop pages are square. It just doesn’t look nice on the page. Is there a way to get around this problem?
To avoid cropping and resizing of the thumbnail: upload a square 1:1 image and do not use the thumbnail adjustment tool.
You cannot remove the adjusted thumbnail, you have to delete the listing image and re-upload again.
The problem is that the thumbnail adjustment tool still creates the adjusted thumbnail as 5:4 ratio. The website layout changed to displaying square 1:1 thumbnails last year, but Etsy have not yet updated the adjustment tool. When the 5:4 adjusted thumbnail is displayed on the shop home page it is cropped at the sides to make it square, making it look zoomed in. The search results use a different 1:1 version of the adjusted thumbnail, which includes additional area of the original listing above and below the selected 5:4 adjustment area.
Never expect Etsy to do anything simple when they can do something complex using creative coding that confuses everybody and doesn't work properly.

Up load a normal sized photo for the listing. Then select the thumbnail area to edit the photo for the thumbnail.
I have never created a thumbnail photo for my photos. I simply use the thumbnail tool Etsy has.
Its not about the dimensions of the image. When i upload an image as a thumbnail on my listing page, it crops it to a horizontal rectangle. But on the shop’s page, etsy stretching that cropped image back to square. I haven’t been able to find any solution to this problem yet. Why this happens? Isn’t there any body to help? Thumbnails are very important part of the first impression and theme of the shop, So i need a solution one way or another.
Thanks for the reply.
I use a white background and place my item photo over it. The white background is set to etsy's 2000x2000 size. Using a photo editor, (I use Canva for this) I can enlarge or minimize the photo as needed to fit into the parameters.
The listing photo I see in your shop looks cropped, if you use the white background and reduce the size of your photo, the entire image will show and the white background will be invisible. You can still have the correct shape of your art without distortion.
Thanks for the reply.
