Tax ID update page erroring out, shop suspended. PLEASE HELP!

I have been trying to update my SSN via the Legal and Tax Information page on Etsy for the past 5 days.

No matter what I do, I get an error message saying "There was an error saving your taxpayer information. Please try again."

I'm not sure if there are Etsy admins on this forum, but I am at my wit's end trying to fix this. So far, all I got from Etsy was a canned email.

So update: our shop just became active. We're not sure why, but we think it was an email my partner King had written to reply back to a manager. He's great with words and he was very firm about the help that was needed immediately. We attached this forum link to that manager, so if that was the reason our shop is now active we are hoping that a more immediate response will happen for you all as well. I know it's been a stressful and beyond difficult road for everyone and am wishing each of you the best of luck.

On a positive note, we got a sale, which is why we found out about our shops update. We were anticipating damaging results to our traffic and although our traffic is still low (just opened) it seems things might be alright. So I hope that brings a small bit of comfort and am glad we found this forum, it saved us a lot of time misery by seeing what you all have tried.

Yep they are verifying stores tax update, i'm back online too!!! Whoo hoo. Etsy bug is fixed!! CHeck your stores people!

I am having the exact same problem. I have been getting the same error message for over a week. The only difference is my shop hasn't been suspended yet. I reached out to Etsy support, but they didn't help at all. They didn't even understand what it was I was talking about.

Wow, thank you for posting in this forum. I am having the same issue. Same error message when trying to add my ssn and my shop is suspended. Not looking forward to the headache it’s going to take to get this working.

Same issue here. I had a live call with someone in IT yesterday. They stated they were transferring me to the finance department where I was on hold for 1 hour and 17 minutes before a recording stated they were not accepting calls. I have also emailed through a help ticket where they state everything has been verified and I’m good to go….but shop and listings are still all inactive. I also had a big selling day the day my account was suspended so almost $500 in funds being held until I’m active again. I don’t know what to do!

Update, after 4 days of refreshing tax ID was magically verified and everything back open. Etsy was really no help and my funds are still held for being a new account  BUT I feel lucky mine was only suspended 4 days. None of the tips and tricks worked, my suggestion is to wait it out.

I am also in week 9 of a suspended account.  Have emailed, chatted, and had 3 actual conversations by phone.  The latest email from Etsy "support":  

Our engineering partners are currently aware of an issue where an error appears when attempting to enter your tax information. We've added your report to the ongoing inquiry so that the team can dig deeper into what's going on.
 
We do not have a timeline for when this issue will be rectified at this time, however, please be aware that we prioritize technical issues depending on their impact on our marketplace. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to reach out with any additional questions via a new ticket!

I ended up closing my Etsy Shop.  No one ever helped me at all.  Sad but true.

Not sure if it's going to work for everyone but I tried with Non-legal name change with adding SSN and it worked. After putting name and SSN, you just have to upload government-issued photo id. It worked for me so give it a try

Thank you! I was getting the error when trying to add my SSN. I tried Non-legal name change, also adding my SSN and it worked for me too! Something odd - it auto populated my first and last name in the First name field only. I fixed that adding my middle name and uploaded my ID which they already had.  Got an email it was verified almost immediately.  Thank you for adding this workaround.

I was having the same error - not being able to update tax info. I did the Non-legal name change and added SSN. Uploaded copy of ID and was instantly verified (and no longer being threatened with my shop being suspended). Thank you Sweetpeaholic!

I'm having the same problem. I got a message from Etsy saying I needed to update my tax ID. I've tried for 2 days now and get the same error message each time. My shop has not been suspended, but I can't update the tax ID.
