just got 7 in person orders from Brooklyn, NY. Only problems, I live in Illinois. Says paid and completed. Nothing in my shop is listed as sold. What do I do??
There are a lot of posts about this today. I haven't seen a explanation yet, but you can search the forum for other posts to see what the other sellers have discussed.
(I can't link to any of the discussions because my posts with links always get deleted, even though they are Etsy links.)
All of the in-person transactions are from Brooklyn, no matter where the seller is.
Cancel and refund, in that order, if money ever shows up in your Finances account. It could be a mistake or someone trying out a stolen credit card.
cancel and refund options are missing for my random in person orders I didn't make.
There is no way to cancel these
Did you recently link a square account to your shop? That's where the other users suspicious orders seemed to be coming from.
Same, I just got four in person Brooklyn purchases for over $300. I had a Square connected and just disconnected it...
Etsy is in Brooklyn. Could Etsy be testing something?
If they are testing, this is pretty bad because they are freaking out many sellers.
I got this too - had a 'chat' with the online 'help'. They said they're looking into it. I'm in Australia at my desk at work - kind of hard to be doing in-person sales in Brooklyn
This literally just happened to me… but I have 37 transactions that add up to thousands of dollars…I’m scared
Me as well about 15 in person sales email all came at exact same time in Brooklyn. The amounts correspond to sales I made at a market in April using Square. Hope they are looking into it. Which I’d never linked the 2 apps!!
Unlink them then. Do it on the Square web site. There really is no benefit other than stock management. The fact you're dinged 20 cents US for every sale you make on square** once connected makes cancelling a simple decision.
** either your item is listed on etsy and square and the sale triggers a relisting charge, or if the item sold is not on etsy, etsy charges 20 cents anyway if the two are connected.
I got 3 orders like that this morning.
Wow, scary. I do not have Square. I won't now. Hope this gets straightened out for you all.
I've had square for over 10 years and have never had an issue. I have never synced my square with my etsy - that's the big difference. This is clearly on etsy's end, not squares.
I have had the same issue, 14 orders for me from Brooklyn NY and I am in Oklahoma.....waiting to find our how to address...

Like many of you, my shop received 23 suspicious orders at 5:15 PM, Oct 18,2022, all for In-Person sales conducted in Brooklyn, NY. I was not in Brooklyn and unable to conduct a sale at the time and date stated. All of items were valid in my Square account and NOT available in my Etsy shop. Square support could not find any record of these orders. I asked if they had been testing an integration with Etsy that had gone wrong. Square support said that they had no knowledge of such a test. Thanks to others in this feed I have disconnected my Square and Etsy accounts. Guess I will wait to see if Etsy issues a response to these postings.
same exact thing happened to me. I can't get any help. What do I do?
@Former_Member Read the link highlighted in pink/peach - it's Etsy Admin updating that it was a mistake on their end.
I have received exactly the same thing, 1 in person order from Brooklyn NY, with no information of the seller and the product.
