Setting up shipping in multiple countries

Jump to solution
Hi!

We've been selling on Etsy US since mid-2022. Now, we've expanded to have warehouses and stock to Germany, Canada and the UK as well. We're currently exploring the best way to setup our fulfilment settings.

Initially, we attempted to open accounts on Etsy DE, Etsy UK, and Etsy CA. However, our accounts were repeatedly banned, despite adhering to the same policies as on Etsy US. Etsy never told us the exact reason behind these bans. I also attempted to create new shipping profiles for these markets on Etsy, but I discovered that you can only have one profile per product.

Do you have any suggestions for successfully selling our products on other Etsy markets such as DE, UK, and CA while continuing to sell in the US? Perhaps we could probably just duplicate the listings for those new markets (EU, CA), and change the shipping profile for those listings to those other countries? (as we'll ship CA orders from our CA warehouse, UK orders from UK warehouse etc)

Thank you!

There is no Etsy for specific countries or regions. It's one site world-wide. I have seen sellers with different listings for the same item based on location. They usually have a flag and/or wording on the primary photo and something in the description, directing buyers to listings for that product that is available to their location. You can also use the shipping profiles to tailor the available countries for a particular listing.

Getting it right is important if you are selling to EU buyers due to the import tax etc.

Your accounts are being banned, because you can not sell the same items from a 2nd and 3rd shop

I think the only solution would be the duplicate listings with the different shipping profiles with the different dispatch locations.

I have done this but all country specific listings  show on my shop. I expected my items to be  shown to my customers based on the delivery profile and their region but all listings are being shown. Anyone else experiencing this? Can this be solved. It'd be confusing for customers to see it like that.

Hey!

We tried that and now our storefront has x4 versions of each product.

How do you get around that?

@EyeWalkCreations  you have no listings so no one can check for you.

@EyeWalkCreations - You have no shop location displayed, but apparently you don't ship to the USA? Despite seeing a US Section with the 9 listings available any listing on your shop's main page that I clicked on advised me "it is not available in my area".

And just now suddenly all of your listings have disappeared. Have no idea what is happening.

But it appeared you are doing POD mugs & your ships from location will be based on where your buyer is? POD is not something I'm familiar with, but will post this response to you so at least you know what I did see in your shop.

Thank you for the response. The reason you might have seen disappearing items is that they are mostly deactivated, and I activate a few at times to check on prices and see if there is anything wrong. I am waiting to activate everything and effectively launch the shop until I understand what the problem is.

Don’t use a VPN Etsy doesn’t allow that and it will be picked up and you will be banned.

@EyeWalkCreations: If I read your intentions correctly, you want to have an order send to a different POD production partner based on the delivery address (for example if you use Printify).  Your concept of using shop sections to select region specific POD partners is an intriguing one, but will not work on Etsy - for several reasons. The kind of 'filtering' you envision is done on a listing level so you would probably need to make a separate listing of the same item for each region with an appropriate shipping profile attached.

Also keep in mind that most people will never see your shop home page, organic search will take them to a listing and odds are it will be the "wrong" one if you have them set up regionally unless the attached shipping profile explicitly excludes all other regions. You could then set up on each listing which partner receives it. Yes, POD is promoted as a passive, set it and forget it type of business but it would appear, at first glance, that the only other, if not easiest for you, alternative to do what you want is to not have the order sent automatically to the POD production partner, but for you to place the order manually after you have received it, but then there is the problem of calculating shipping charges.

Initially, we attempted to open accounts on Etsy DE, Etsy UK, and Etsy CA

There is no etsy de, etsy ca etc, etsy is 1 worldwide site, unlike e-bay and Amazon.

you cannot sell the same thing, in different shops, etsy will shut you down. You cannot avoid tis by using VPN - it just means you know you are trying to get round etsys rules.

you need to keep everything in the same shop,

If you sell from Canada, just to Canada, you have a listing which says ships from canada, and to canada

If you sell the same thing from Germany, to 5 different countries, you have to have a duplicate listing that ships from Germany, to the 5 countries the ship to.

.... etsy isn't really designed for multiple ship-from locations for the same item, as it was set up for handmade, vintage and supplies, pod was outlawed for a long time, and it's really a bolted add-on, which is messy

Yep we went with duplication route, and then realised that every product was duplicated in our storefront as well... Any way around this?

not many people look at your storefront,

buyers search, and will only be shown the items that are sent to their country,

but yes, if they then go to your storefront, they will see duplicate items,

there is no way around this,

No

Any item you list will be available  to be seen by anyone looking at your shopfront no matter their location

But most buyers will use the "ships to" filter in search results so will only see the items that ship to their location in the search
