I have been given 75% score for responding to messages. But the one the spreadsheet says I failed to respond within 24 hours wasn't from a buyer. It was to me as a buyer, from a seller. I didn't answer as it was just trying to get me to follow them.
Surely Etsy should be distinguishing between emails from sellers about orders we've placed for ourselves?
Or do I have to answer every single message I receive even if it doesn't require a response and isn't even to me as a seller?

You have to respond to all messages.
It's 1 inbox. You are a seller. therefore every message you receive requires a response or marking as spam.
If you really don't want to do this, setup a new account to use a buyer.
This happened to me as well, I was fuming!! I complained to customer service but they just wrote back saying I should mark it as spam /set up an auto reply.
Really very annoying!!
