If I respond to a message through the order page the message still shows up as unread on the messages page until I read it from that page. I just want to be sure that they are being marked as responded to when the response is done and not when I realize it hasn't cleared and go back and open it again to clear it.
Can someone look into that?

Orders are orders, you cannot reply to messages form the orders page

Not true, I've done it for 14 years. You click on the envelope to the right of the order and it takes you to the messages for that order.

I have always had to do both. I have never had a message answered in the order page from the order page.
The envelope just opens up for me to send a message. It does not reply to a message in teh message system.
Been this way for me for 10+ years.
I can send a message from the order but not answer a message in the message area.
Yes, this is happening in my shop too. VERY annoying.
For 14 years I've answered from the order page. So, please don't keep saying you have to answer from the messages page. This only started happening a few days ago. Up until then there was no problem with answering from the orders page and having it register that the message had been read and answered. This has nothing to do with star seller or not, it has to do with the messages from the order page not telling the message page that the message has been read and answered. It is showing the response I have given to the buyer in the messages page but isn't marking it as being read on the messages page.
Yeah I don't understand saying you have to respond from the message page. it's never been like that before and it wouldn't make any sense for that to be a requirement. It would be terribly confusing. It's not been like that before and it has no REASON to be that way now.
There have been quite a few reports of it not working from the order, for quite a while.

etsy says, for the badge, do it from messages, so if you want the badge, do it from messages
I also just noticed that if you click on the message from the message page, some of them do not link to the orders. Where normally on the right hand side of the page it shows the order information that area is blank. It's not all orders just some of them.
I believe the previous reports were that help messages weren’t linking to orders. This is different. The message is linked to the orders and the response shows on the message page if made from the order. But it’s not showing as read on the message page even though the response is showing. This is something new that just started this week. The other issue has been going on for a while.
I also noticed starting midnight last night I only get email notification on the first message from a buyer. Subsequent messages from the same buyer don’t come through in emails.
I believe you, that something's changed. I made a purchase yesterday. Had to Message Seller, who was very helpful and courteous. After I Thanked her and she signed off, there was the following text below her last Response (tan background). It was Marked *Only visible to you" (me as the Buyer).

I swear I have not seen this before as a Buyer. My first thought was, I just purchased from this Seller; everything's great, no problems. But this is actually presuming there will be a problem. Why look for trouble; if I did have problems I certainly would communicate with the Seller first (unless of course, I was being duped). But I don't assume there are problems from the get go.
So I do believe you are correct; something has changed within Messages in regards to Orders.
Wow, why would they actively discourage messaging the seller?
Looks like they really, really want buyers to open cases.
I am having the same issue. I have responded from the message help request, even got the “nice work” notification for replying and it still says new request and won’t register that I’ve responded.
You are seeing a different issue (this post is from a year ago). Your issue is new. The notice that it is a new request seems to stick around for a few days, but other sellers have verified that if you answer in 24 hours, your star seller stats will not be affected.

I've had this problem since last night - send in a formal message for a call back. I've had three messages and now I am not a star seller for October by no fault of my own. They only fix things if it's happening to a lot of sellers! Report report.
