With the new rollout, I am seeing all of my items are automatically listed as "Designed by FirstCampaign" (this shows on the item listing) even though most of my items should fall under "Made by". Anyone else experiencing this? I tried to edit the new "Core details" section ("Who made this item?", etc), but still says "Designed by". Maybe just a bug in the initial rollout?
The same applies to one of my articles. I do the personalization myself with a branding iron and apply it to my shoes. Customers only indicate in which color and with which name it is personalized. For me it's clearly the production of a product and also the design.
I have items that I made that are showing up as handpicked. How can I fix this??!?!? The problem looks like it may be if I made them over 20 years ago.
In case this helps, I've found that the "Core Details" of my listings need correcting, and then they are getting correctly listed.
It looks like Etsy are guessing some details and, in my case, got it wrong. It incorrectly added Production Partners onto all my listings.
The core details on the items in question are correct. "I did... 2000-2004 (or 1990's)"
@BrimstoneHillDesigns
Etsy is probably looking first at the year to determine how to categorize that listing. Nearly all vintage items will be "handpicked." They do not allow listings to have two categories, like handmade and designed, or handmade and handpicked, in your case.
Would it matter to the buyer if you made it a long time ago? If not, it seems like you could change the date on the listing.
I'm seeing the same in my shop. The double sets of my boxes say "made by" and the single boxes say "designed by." I do both but it makes no sense to me why there's a difference. Fortunately all of the pillows accurately say "made by."
Oh yes I see what your talking about! Both should say "Made by"! Keeping my fingers crossed it's just a bug and Etsy will work it out.
@GielDesigns I had two items that should say the same, but didn't. I looked at the categories and changed the one that was wrong to the same category as the other, and it fixed it.
I've still got lots of issues.
@FussyGeekWares Just took your advice but no luck. Four of my items are listed in the same category but two say "made by" and two say "designed by." And they're listed almost identically. But thanks for the info and I'm glad you got yours straight, and hope you get the rest of the issues cleared up too.
@GielDesignsOh no, sorry it didn't work. All of my prints but one are wrong. Only one was printed externally, the rest were either my laser printer or hand printed but all say 'Designed by'. Let's hope this is just a bug but it seems like it's a bit more complex than they thought.
@FussyGeekWares: Based on the many posts about this, it appears that the bot is clearly incorrectly looking for production partners at shop level rather than just at listing level.
@BagmakerSupply
This was the conclusion I came to with my prints. I also have 2 washi tapes that I bought as journal supplies but two I designed myself and had made. They all have the same 'sourced by' label.
Yup. So upset. Mine all say "handpicked" instead of "made". I spoke with support who told me that I am confused and that handpicked means handmade. I keep sending them screenshots of the announcement and explaining that made and handpicked are not the same. The only information that I was able to gain was that some categories are only eligible for certain classifications. So because I sell gift boxes and spa kits, it is automatically categorized as handpicked even though I make all of my products. Who knows if that is even true. Support also said there is no way on their end to update it.
So basically if you make spa items then you now have the same classification as these garbage gift box resellers who apparently are now allowed to see on Etsy.
Oh my goodness! I really hope that's not true about only certain categories being eligible for the "handmade" classifications... That can't make sense! ... Especially since the main issue is standing out as handmade WITHIN your certain category and niche.
Actually mine are both, I design , then make.
According to the sellers handbook, with a link to the creativity standards as updated today, the description of your baskets is correct.
"Handpicked by a seller: Vintage items, items from nature, and certain collections of items selected/curated by a seller"
https://www.etsy.com/legal/creativity
I would say that any of the individual items should rank as "made by" if you are making them all yourself.
I make all my bandanas, and they've been tagged as "designed by"
@GreenandGlowStudio: "... some categories are only eligible for certain classifications ..." And do we have any faith that Etsy clearly communicated to the support staff the details of this new initiative?
Plus, if you had the misfortune of communicating with an AI bot, a 'side effect' is that the AI can only provide the information it was trained on, and AI has been known to hallucinate answers if it cannot find one. Remember Google’s AI search tool telling users to ‘eat rocks’ for their health?
I'm sorry this has happened to your shop. That's so annoying.
I've done a quick search and am yet to find a bundle / basket of Etsy shop branded products that say 'Made by' I have mostly seen 'Designed by' so far.
Same boat, 49 out of the 51 of my handmade candle listings now say designed by, not made by. Support told me that they are aware, but no information otherwise.
I have tried changing mine to "made by me" and some listings change, some do not. they show as changed in the seller listing, but show as "designed by shop" on Etsy where it really counts. What's up with this?????
I just watched a 13 minute Kara Buntin video on youtube. I can't post the link but search "Etsy listing policy clarification July 2024" and at about minute 7:45 she goes into some of the listing manager changes that have shown up as far as how your listing will reflect handmade, designed or sourced. These are new options we have not had before that might be affecting how listings show up.
It boils down to these changes are only as good as the level of honesty of the sellers but is very helpful as far as explaining the options we can choose.
where can we change old listings to reflect the new language - Sourced By in the vintage dealer's case?
Haven't looked at that yet, I'm trying to gather my wits about me to dive in.
However, Kara's video really explains and shows what we can do and how to use this new section.
@FirstCampaign this is I think why .
You are not personally making your items , correct ? - it looks like you are using a POD to create product from your designs.
So the designed by tag is correct
I've just looked at my shop the items I make myself say made by and the craft project digital downloads say designed by both being correct.
It appears its is YOUR understanding of the terms MADE BY and DESIGNED by that's the issue.
