With the new rollout, I am seeing all of my items are automatically listed as "Designed by FirstCampaign" (this shows on the item listing) even though most of my items should fall under "Made by". Anyone else experiencing this? I tried to edit the new "Core details" section ("Who made this item?", etc), but still says "Designed by". Maybe just a bug in the initial rollout?
I am personally making many of my items. I completely understand this categorization on my mugs. Since I design them and they are printed by someone else, this is definitely the right category. My napkins are more complicated since I source the blank napkins and then hand embroider and hand paint them in my studio. But my stockings, bookmarks, scrunchies, etc that are all made by hand (I cut out the fabric, do the embroidery by hand, and paint by hand) should fall under the "Made by" category, should they not?
Yeah...
My custom hand drawn cartoons and handmade bookmarks say “designed by” rather than “made by.”
Trust me, not a single other person is helping me with any of those. *facepalm*
I’m especially annoyed about the cartoons because it looks like maybe I’m outsourcing the final drawing or something.
It was just rolled out today, I fully expect it to have some bugs and still be learning how to properly label products.
For myself, I found that most of my listings that many shops do outsource (mainly embroidered items), it is designating them as 'designed by', even though I do all the embroidery myself in house. Though even this isn't consistent, as some embroidered listings are showing as 'made by'.
I personally am going to give it some time to work out some of the bugs, which should be 100% anticipated with anything Etsy implements.
If anyone is so inclined and wants to make sure their listings appear with the correct information sooner, you should be able to go into the listings and edit this info (it's under the 'core details' part of the listing form).
I also have a suspicion that this new change is part of why there have been issues with the new listing form, or why they weren't necessarily addressing those issues, because they were working on adding this new feature/change.
I totally agree that it just seems like something new that needs to be ironed out. Initially I tested completely filling out the new "Core details" form on my handmade items and it still says "Designed by"— so definitely seems like a bug or something (hopefully!)
Experiencing the same thing. POD and made in house items are all showing "Designed By".
Roughly 200 of my products are made with help of a POD for multi color graphic designs. My production partners are listed on only those and have never changed.
The other 2,000+ items have always been made in house, and never had production partners attached to them. Ship from location has always been the same as well for nearly 4 years now.
**** Are they possibly referencing single listings in the store, and if 1 of them is made with POD partners, the whole store is classified as such?***
No. They just haven't worked out all the bugs yet or figured out how to properly classify items.
I have never had a single production partner attached to a single listing in my shop. Everything in my shop has always been something I have physically made (or altered, as technically printing on a shirt is altering it). So even without ever having a production partner attached to my shop in any way ever on any listing, I still have a number of listings that are designated as 'designed by'.
So the answer to your question, "**** Are they possibly referencing single listings in the store, and if 1 of them is made with POD partners, the whole store is classified as such?***" must be no. Listings are being labeled individually, it's not shop based (though some shops may find every single one of their items in the same category, that's not the same as classifying an entire shop one way).
My digital items are most definitely handmade by me - with a digital pen or just a mouse, on a digital canvas. Now my digital items say 'designed by' - but Etsy has always considered the digital art we create to be handmade by us. I am confused and I think buyers may be confused too. And Journal pages, lined writing paper is most definitely not party decor!!!
I'll have to see what happens when I list some of my handmade items. I have a stash of stock already made that will fit in this shop.
Right now I only have POD listed and just opened last week.
The $30 opening fee was an ouch! LOL
all my items with personalization are marked as designed by.
Etsy fashion to roll out a faulty program and sellers take the blunt of it
I just want to summarize everything for now since it seems like a few people are having a similar technical issue~~
—I encourage everyone having this issue to let Etsy know. It seems like just a temporary bug with the initial rollout— fingers crossed! There is a survey for this rollout linked at the bottom on this page : https://www.etsy.com/seller-handbook/article/1276491338090
—Seems like within a single shop, some handmade items are showing the correct tag (Handmade by...) while other handmade items from the same shop are not (incorrectly showing Designed by, etc)
—Some folks are having success editing the new "Core details" section in the listing edits. Personally, completely filling out this new form on my 100% handmade items made no difference— still says "Designed by..."
—Someone wondered if having a production partner for any of your items might be effecting your whole shop. Another shop commented that they have never had a production partner and they are having the same issue with some of their items.
Thought it was just me! I have gone thru and changed core details but alas it remains the same .
But at least it is not just me . Hanging on for the ride !!
Wait a minute?? I design my jewelry, I create what it looks like and made it as well.
This is the same issue I am having. I have contacted support; emailed and phone - there has been no change.
My handmade items are being designated as "designed by" - no matter what I change the "core details" to. Support has said "we know; we don't have a way to fix it yet."
Why would Etsy make a giant announcement that "designed by" means that sellers do not make the item personally... And then a glitch effectively throws the truly handmade sellers under the bus?
Has anyone had any resolution yet?
Hey Josh, in regard to that video, did you design it or just make it? If you say both,..... do you see where I'm going here (wink)
Well I don't know if it will hurt sales. From the looks of it, POD t-shirts are the most popular items in the "Chef's Kiss" gifting section. WTH
Typical Etsy. Rolling out something broken. Or shall I say hobbling out...?
I also have an issue with my photo calendars showing as Sourced By when they should show as Designed By and it is because wall calendars are subcategorized under Supplies Party and Paper and that category does not stipukate that items have to meet the Handmade by Seller policy. So, it could be the category. Etsy has not accounted for ambiguity with some items.
Also super annoyed by this. I have a bracelet that I make by hand on my site, yet Etsy lists it as "designed by". I've read the Creativity Standards. There is no production partner, no AI involved and my item is not digital. How does Etsy determine/categorize items?
Most of my listings are showing up as designed by when in fact, I design and handmake them. I have gone in and changed the core item detail to "made by shop" and "use hand tools". even though it shows that way in the listing, on the site it still shows as "designed by". Come on Etsy!!!! you are making us do this, you could at the very least make sure the change works!!!!!
Mine are all over the place. I make 99% of my items myself, the only exception is a handful of greeting cards which are designed completely by me from scratch and they are then professionally printed for me and they all now say 'sourced by'. I'm just going to take a deep breath and hope it's roll out glitches but I am not looking forward to changing over 600 listings if it's not. Still working on titles, square photo's and videos!!! I seem to spend all my spare time with endlessly changing listings rather than rolling out clay or playing with paper in my craft room! Sigh...
I am the designer of my wall calendars but .... because they fall under the Supplies Party and Paper Category, it shows I Sourced the item, not that I Designed the item! This is not accurate at all.
Where or how would we submit issues such as this, to Etsy? Is there a survey or feedback form for issues for the new policies and breakdowns? Guess I may need to find another category if possible.
I list my wall calendars as wall art. You could fill in the survey that is in the announcement of the changes too.
But, if someone filters for Wall Calendars, our listing won't show up if we list in Art.
I did switch categories and yes, this works but I feel photo calendars should be able to be under Art, Wall Art too, or, it should be coded to display correctly depending on what we are indicating in the listing form.
I'll look for the survey tomorrow, thanks, I did recall seeing that now.
I filled out the survey.
In summary, the Category should not automatically determine what is stated on our listing, the options, and details and things we fill out on our listing form should.
