I discovered this issue some months ago and nothing has changed.
@cuttingsNL - This is nothing new. Every time you type in a new search term, the results will be for all items & your filters are not carried over. For someone like me that means that 99% of the time I must then immediately filter for "vintage".
Search remembers absolutely nothing. It does not recognize the "-" sign when trying to narrow down results. It will automatically edit your results - recently search thinks I'm looking for a "garden Best duster" instead of a "garden Pest duster". I could go on.
Etsy's Search has been in need of a major overhaul for ages, with quite a bit of reliance on AI and "intuitive" search results. I always wonder how many sales are lost due to Search.
@JMOldeVintage absolutely agree on the last paragraph. So many sales have been lost because of that. Etsy is so good at everything (compared to the rival selling sites) only the search engine sucks big time. Now at the A.I. era the way search functions (or not functioning at all) on Etsy seems too primitive for me, and counter-productive.
Why would you want to keep settings? I change every time I do a search since my needs are different each time. Oh, keep settings when you change topic? Again, why would you want to? The search may need new parameters.
Now a narrowed search down does keep the filters for me when I search the same topic just narrow down.
When I refresh the filters remain on.
What browser are you using and what kind of device? That may make a huge difference in how search reacts.
@PrimFun - I search eBay every morning with a cup of coffee. "Vintage Garden Tool", select "newly listed". I now see items listed late on the previous day & items listed early that morning. In less than five minutes I'm done, unless of course something piqued my interest.
If I decide to get more specific, maybe about once a week, I'll begin with say "hedge shears" or "garden pest duster". I might go with the Antique or the Collectible category(s).
But I do not need to re-select for "newly listed". That stays. My choice of Antiques or Collectibles Category sticks too as I change search terms.
Remember, I'm searching for niche items so this makes browsing sooo much easier since maybe only a half dozen items were added since I lasted used my specific terms. But still, why should I wade back through the other 80 items say, when the "new" immediately shows me what really is new.
Because this is my preference. And Etsy should provide that freedom of choice. Either way with a robust and well-built search engine both sellers and Etsy increase sales.
Simple as that.
"When I refresh the filters remain on"
Now they remain indeed, Probably Etsy changed something. And in fact, they changed a lot!
(will post to my main thread what I saw today).

YAY! Finally! After my thread, now big changes with the search engine.
