hello, I received such a message, does anyone have information about this?
"Hello, my name is Jackson, I'm the bot in charge of security. You have received a complaint that you are a scammer, in order that your account was not blocked send me your name and surname, as well as your e-mail.
You will need to be verified today, in the worst case your account will be blocked.
Send me your first name, last name and e-mail!!!!!"
I've been getting these on my Facebook business accounts. Better written though. They claim they are META security and I've been reported for IP infringement and my page is at risk of closure. I need to click on the link provided to clear it up.
Clue it's a scam, they've tagged every business in town that has a FB page in alphabetical order. I'm pretty sure META would actually deal with me one on one not tag me in a post with dozens of other businesses if there was an actual issue.
Hahaha! OMG the extra !!!s
No bot, or professional, uses excess punctuation.
Also, Etsy is US based. We don't say "Surname" regularly.
yes when is the last time you said the word *surname*.
in a sentence.
answer me now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A scammer with poor English writing skills.
my cat.
could have written a more convincing message than that.
plus that rhymed.
and my cat loves the !!!!!!!!!! key too.
LMAO!!!!
All I could think of when I read that was "DANGER WILL ROBINSON! Send me your info!!!!!!" ... or "Dave...what are you doing Dave?" Tip of the hat to the Hal reference.
I immediately thought:
"foreign contaminant! foreign contaminant?" (Wall-E)
*edit*
Actually, the steering wheel bot ("Auto") is more appropriate regarding personality lol
Maybe all these scammers are just AI bots slowly taking over the world..... Wow, I need to stop watching The Terminator.
It's OK just pretend you're a fire hydrant or a motorcycle and you'll be safe.
Hey! Etsy could start naming all their bots. "Hello human, I'm Flame-ron 12 and I'm in charge of screwing up (fill in the blank)". At least we'd know who to talk to.
That is such a classic scam that I laughed out loud when I read it. That's not even worded in a professional way. Complete and total scam.
Nobody in the USA says "surname." That's written by someone not in the USA.

I can’t stop laughing
Well this is a new one. Apparently the bot in charge of "security" can't pull up their "secure" information they manage. That's hysterical!
You know what's a bloody shame about these goons. Since the time I started selling here (2011) to now, there really is a lot more to read, and take in. So new Sellers get set up and are trying to work on their Shops; understand how things work, while at the same time, being targeted by these fools. And seasoned Sellers are as well. I can't ever recall seeing so many Sellers come to the Forum, and report scam attempts (some not falling for it, others have). It feels like you're using one of those mosquito zappers non-stop (they look like a tennis racket). Then you think about all the Sellers who never visit the Forums. I can only imagine how many have been ripped off; I bet it's horrifying. I despise anyone who preys on others.
You can tell it's a scammer because a 'real' Etsy security bot would be named something more like r4873h129b24.
this is an obvious scam but you might try messing with them a bit before repoting them by giving them a fake e-mail and saying the your name is ligma nutes and hope they are too dumb to notice the joke.
A lot of these scammers are organized crime so I don't think, personally, it is good idea to mess with them (as much as I"d like)
the whole reason that any organized crime might be involved in online scams is more due to the fact that they don't want to do anything in person in other words less risk and many ways to cover their tracks online.
if them showing up outside your place is what your concerned about don't be the most that people like this do is harass you for a few weeks after insulting them I my family regularly take the scam calls and messes with them. besides the mention of surname instead of last name points to them being outside the US or pre-historic,yes like dinosaurs and not worth the money to show up in person.
the whole reason they are running scams online is less or no risk of being caught and generally if or when caught are often receiving a short sentencing or hefty fines.
@TheVintagePineapple and @ThePurplePuppy hope the edit is taken well.
@HephaestusForgeCraft Can I suggest that you edit your reply and remove the ''or very old'' phrase? You're opening a big old can of worms otherwise.
Well well well--you best listen to @TheVintagePineapple SON--I am very very old and yup-- howdy! I use the word "surname" all the time!
And BTW--they ain't gonna show up at my place--we be so deep in the holler no one knows how to find us! LOL
