I lost my badge because scammers

I checked my message history and; I lost my star seller badge because I did not respond to 2 scammers named "Etsy Support" and "Technical Etsy Staff". Moreover, both accounts have been closed. Why do I have to lose my star seller badge because I do not respond to scammers?

You should have put those messages into the spam folder right away.

Unfortunately you didn’t lose star seller because of scammers…you lost it because you didn’t take action on the messages.

Re: I lost my badge because scammers

@JonturqoCA: "Why do I have to lose my star seller badge because I do not respond to scammers?" The Star Seller metric for messages is very simplistic and binary - either you replied to (or marked as SPAM) that first message of a new incoming thread within 24 hours or you did not, and by your own admission you chose not to do either.

As it says right on your Star Seller page and elsewhere, you need to reply to the FIRST message of EVERY NEW INCOMING THREAD within 24 hours. It does not matter who sent it, the subject matter, if it is a duplicate or blank or anything else. If it is SPAM then it should be marked as such.

A controversial workaround : if the unanswered new thread is not a Help Request, at least for the time being, it appears that marking an unanswered new thread as SPAM (even after the 24 hour deadline has passed) will cause your reply percentage to change in a day or two (but not retroactively) if the original message was within the current star seller period. Note that subsequent messages from that account may go directly to the SPAM folder.

Re: I lost my badge because scammers

Besides the Star Seller metric, marking spam as spam helps Etsy to reduce the number of scammers by flagging their accounts. The more people do this, the fewer spammers/scammers.

it's just good all around not to ignore these messages.

This is a really good reason to spend a few minutes reading the forum, if not daily, then weekly.

If you had, you would have known how it works.

Re: I lost my badge because scammers

It doesn’t matter who the message was from or what it was about, what matters is if you responded or marked it as spam. It sounds like you didn’t do either one so Etsy dinged you for it.
If you are using the seller app you probably won’t see the spam button. The new and improved app doesn’t have it so you need to go online to deal with it.

Just message Etsy and they will get you sorted out.  They used to be impossible to contact but they now have support.  I recently had a small problem and they fixed it right away.  Look at the bottom right hand corner of any page and you will see the message icon.

Sellers that don't have the SSB also don't have the chat button and Etsy will not reinstate the SSB when a seller chooses to not follow the rules.

Etsy will not sort this out.

Similar scam message received:  "Hi. We noticed that you recently registered on our Etsy site. To ensure the safety of our community and protect your interests, we are asking you to verify your account. In order to do so, we need your confirmation email. Please send us your email address so we can begin the verification process. Thank you for your understanding! ".

Correct logo, good English, but incorrect statement about recent registration, I've been on Etsy a long time.
