When customers complete the gift message option, only the first line of their message prints.
So, for example a message like:
'Happy Birthday Anne
love, James'
only shows as 'Happy Birthday Anne' on the order when printed out to enclose in packaging.
This really needs to be fixed please.
There are some other threads about this problem. I'm surprised it hasn't been fixed since etsy wants to position themselves as THE place to buy gifts.
Mine is printing some sort of symbols across the top.?
Is it possible you don't have gift messages enabled in your shop? I just looked at one of the other problem threads and there is a link to some info about gift messages and "gift teasers". The info is here:
If there isn't a technical problem with printing it on etsy's end, I'm guessing it might be because your shop doesn't have the messages enabled so the message you are seeing is the "teaser".
Having the same problem. I checked to see if my gift messages were "enabled" like the other person suggested and they are so looks like it's a technical issue.
@michellepatterns Thanks for your reply, but I do have gift messages enabled, so it looks like it’s a technical glitch of some sort.
Same here. Looks to me like it isn't printing whatever they put in the "who's this gift from?" box, only the gift message box.
Reporting the same issue here too - going to see if I can manually add to it using Canva.
Yes same here, it's definitely a technical glitch, it's been like this for several months.
Same here, I'm having to add a text box when I open it to put the name in, but the font isn't the same.
Just to add:
It's clear what message the buyer wishes to be added and it can be seen on the actual order.
The first line of the buyer's gift message prints, but on the next line there are a few hyphens or underscores (can't remember which) before the bit where the buyer has entered something else, like 'love James' or whatever.
I doubt the buyer has entered these symbols, so it looks to me like anything entered after them (including the symbols) doesn't print out on the gift page sent to recipient. They look like they're some kind of coding and are possibly the cause of the problem. But what do I know. Etsy are the gifting specialists after all.
I'm having the same issue as well, and now have to manually create gift receipts.
The words on the shop title run over the dash fold line and apostrophes are coming across on the printed card as "&*39;" which is the html code for an apostrophe. So unprofessional
Then there's the horrible layout of the 1/2 page at the bottom of a full page forcing you to always waste a full sheet of paper to print them and it's not like it's foldable into fours since the message would be on the back. Just make it one page like it was before revision #2 of 2024 or back to what it was in 2023 - at least those didn't look like as bad (still bad, but not as bad).
I was about to get on live chat with Etsy about this, but then remembered the last time I tried reporting an issue via chat and they told me to post about it on the technical issues forum. So please, Etsy, can you acknowledge the problem and resolve it?
While you're fixing the code...
The original gift slip could be folded in half and then half again and placed with the order. The new version is unspeakably ugly and oversized, so I haven't used it since the first time it changed. Why couldn't it be more like a traditional gift tag, with the to and from, and stop pushing the advertising so hard.
I finally saw the new version. It is horrible. And the "Enjoy your gift from Etsy!" No, actually the buyer bought and paid for it, so that looks incredibly tacky.
Boosting thread.
Please fix this Etsy and ***please let us know you’re on the case***?
I started a thread on this very same issue a few weeks ago.
I WISH ETSY WOULD CONCENTRATE OF FIXING "SEARCH" INSTEAD OF RUINING WHAT WAS NOT BROKEN!
I'm also experiencing this issue, luckily I saved a copy of the version at the end of 2023 (full page version with the photo of item at the top and the message in the middle). I'm fortunate to have Adobe Photoshop and I've created a template wherein I can add a photo and enter the customer's message, and change the item description. Basically, I make my own gift receipts using the Etsy branding from the older version. When I go to print the gift receipt in the current version directly from my orders page, the entire top of the gift receipt page is blank with a small message in the lower right of the page which is apparently the message from the buyer.
I do hope this gets fixed ASAP but as a work around, you can do as I'm doing and use PSD to alter an older gift receipt version if you have saved one. Or, if you have Adobe Acrobat Premium and have capability to edit PDFs then you can edit that way as well, but you need to have saved an older version of the gift receipt in order to use these workarounds.
Hope this helps!
This still has not been fixed. It cuts off half the message and who the gift is from. I have since made my own template also. I do like my version better.
this is ridiculous! I get many gift notes, and I can't believe this isn't an easy fix. Why is it taking so long???
Because ETsy does not care, and few experienced employees.
Etsy help! The new gift note not only looks horrible (for reasons noted by other sellers), but now it doesn't even include who it's from, which is the whole purpose of the gift note.
With all the card makers on Etsy, WHY are the gift card receipts so poorly laid out when printed? The sender name is missing (although, IMO, the person sending should include that in the message as sometimes people do send anonymous gifts as a "game"), the shop title overlaps onto the next quadrant and it wastes a whole sheet of paper that you still can't fold right so the item purchased items aren't on the back.... who designed this!!
Between how bad it looks and that I'm now taping my 1/2 sheet "better" paper to the bottom of a control full size sheet to feed it through the printer and taking all that time yesterday to print one and fussing with where to fold it so the words don't wrap over the edge, I'm contemplating turning off the gift message and just not including a receipt with the order. I don't have the time or patience for Etsy's ineptitude for this printable card design.
Just adding another comment so maybe Etsy does something about this eventually. Really frustrating that I have to edit every single gift receipt that goes out!!!! Why did they even change it from the full page version? It looked so much nicer.
Because they wanted it to say "from ETSY" instead of showing buyer or seller. Basically they have no idea what they are doing and we are caught up in their experimental games.
