New gift teasers lets last-minute shoppers send a preview

We’re all about making it easy (and fun) for shoppers to discover perfect presents for everyone on their lists. Now, even last-minute shoppers can purchase extra special gifts from Etsy sellers like you thanks to Etsy’s new gift teaser. Shoppers can instantly send a digital preview of the gift directly to the recipient or schedule their teaser to be sent when the item ships so they know something awesome is on the way.

The best part? There’s nothing you need to do! Whether they’re sending a gift to a friend across the country or shopping for a last-minute party, the gift teaser opens up even more possibilities for gift shoppers on Etsy—and gives you a chance to delight shoppers without needing to scramble.

Gift teasers include a personalized message from the buyer and tracking info. Buyers can add to the excitement by letting their loved one reveal a photo from the listing or they can choose to keep the gift a surprise (no peeking!).

How it works

When shoppers are buying a gift on Etsy, they can mark the order as a gift and include a gift message. That gift message can now be used in two ways: 

1. Personalized message: If an order is marked as a gift and the buyer includes a gift message, that personalized note is included on the gift packing slip—all you need to do is print it out and include it in your package. 
2. Gift teaser: Buyers also have the option to create a gift teaser to send directly to the gift recipient—there’s nothing you need to do. 

If you don’t have gift messages enabled in your shop, the buyer will only be able to add a note to their gift teaser. There’s no action required on your end. If the buyer creates a gift teaser, you’ll see the gift message badge on the order in your Shop Manager. Shoppers won’t see the option to send a gift teaser when purchasing a digital item. 

How to delight gift shoppers

Make it easy for shoppers to discover great gifts in your shop and send them directly to their friends and family. 

• Enable gift messages and include the gift packing slip in your packages 
• Include special touches that reinforce your brand like stickers or a business card 
• Offer gift wrap for an extra fee
• If your items come in ready-to-gift packaging, include a photo in your listing

Gift recipients can now message you with questions

When shoppers need help with their order on Etsy, we always encourage them to reach out to you first so you can work on a solution—after all, you know your business and products best. Now, gift recipients who receive a gift teaser will see the option to send you a message if they need help with their gift. 

Gift recipients can reach out with any questions about the shipping or the item itself. You have the option to send a replacement if something’s wrong with the order. However, only the original buyer of a gift can request a refund, return, or exchange—depending on your shop policies. Gift recipients won’t be able to request a return or file a case. Messages you receive from gift recipients will be identified with a badge so you know who you’re messaging with.
