I have found a few customer messages in our Etsy spam folder from the last week. I only noticed this as a customer got in touch to chase a message and I found it and 2 other customer messages in the Etsy spam folder. As far as I was aware you had to manually add messages to spam but may be Etsy have changed this due to so much spam. Has anyone else checked their spam and had this issue?
I think they may have changed something in the past 1-2 weeks, would have been nice to receive a notification.
Many other sellers have reported the same happening
So now I lose my star seller for the month because of it. I had no clue. I didn't know it was my responsibility to get messages to myself. It's always something.
I guess they have tried to find a solution to the amount of spam emails and created more problems. I did try and have a search but couldn't spot anyone else mentioning it.
Etsy wouldn't be Etsy if they informed us about changes they make. I think they like keeping us on our toes.
@VerbatimARTUK
This happened to me but 6 weeks ago.
Etsy put a friends message in my spam folder and we've been messaging for 4-5 years.
So far none of my messages have went in her spam folder.
Here's 3 threads about this in the last week.
One from yesterday:
Re: Etsy messages going straight to spam - Welcome to the Etsy Community
One from Tuesday:
Solved: Re: Non spam ends up directly in Spam folder! - Welcome to the Etsy Community
One from Monday:
Re: Real message automatically went to spam - Welcome to the Etsy Community
Its part of living testing fixes in a live system
I need to train myself to check the spam now - afraid of missing a legit message. If people are seeing this, can you please post the word or phrases you think may be triggering this? I appreciate Etsy trying to stem the influx of scammers, but it may take some time to fine-tune the screening bot.
@PillowDetails Yes, it looks like we will now need to double-check Spam for any possible messages.
What about all the sellers who don't come to the forums and won't know to check their Spam folders? A seller wide notification needs to happen, please.
What I don't understand is WHAT triggers a message to be put in spam?
Someone mentioned it was because a message had links in it.
Well I know for sure that message my friend sent me didn't have any links YET it was put in spam.
@vintageNCtreasures Oh dear. I just told someone to send a link to a customer!!
Off to edit a post...*sigh*
@ForeverWindingWool
My friends message that got put in spam did NOT have any links in her message at all.
So I have no idea what triggered it that one time.
Who knows if a link (from a listing on etsy, forum link, outside link etc) causes a message to be put in spam?
Maybe who posted that was just speculating that a link caused a message to be spammed and actually did NOT know for sure.
I have found some Etsy messages in my yahoo email spam folder. Have to pay more attention now.
I noticed this too and wondered if it was some kind of glitch or if something in the message registered as potential spam because I've been getting other messages just fine.
I’m not receiving any order or convo emails Nothing in spam either.
Oh shoot - what about when we as Sellers, send a link to a customer who is asking for something?
The only messages I have in my Spam folder are ones I put there. I don't see any other messages that are legit and were put in Spam incorrectly. I am receiving messages from customers as normal overall.
Io sono nuova ho appena aperto il mio negozio, ma fino adesso ho ricevuto tantissime mail che volevano la mia mail e volevano fare la verifica del mio conto corrente, io li ho messi tutti nello spam.
Same here, some from about 3 days ago automatically went into spam folder and I didnt notice them until today. These were all legit messages from potential buyers. I was asking about this myself why is this happening. In the past, things only went into SPAM if I put them there.
Same here. I first noticed one message got put automatically into my spam folder about a couple weeks ago, then one 3 days ago, then one yesterday. All legit customers. I'm going to check my spam folder every day now.
if we answer a spam message later than 24 hours.
will etsy hold it against us?
i have not had a spam message since 2022!
but i checked today and there it is.
in my spam folder.
a real message from a potential customer.
No, I don't think you'll be penalized. According to Etsy, messages that end up in your Spam folder don't count towards Star Seller. So I wouldn't think it would matter if you answered a spam message since it didn't count to begin with.
@nineteen27: But you will probably have to move the message out of SPAM because according to Etsy "You won’t receive any new messages from that member, and they’ll be unable to reply to messages in an existing thread." https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000343128-How-to-Handle-Scams-and-Suspicious-Messages
Presumably if you move it out of SPAM it will once again count as answered late.
I had messages in my spam folder and now reduced to 75% message response rate because of this.
Just found out about the spam folder from another seller or I wouldn’t have even known. Was kind of her to have it in her Instagram stories to inform other sellers.
Immmesiately checked my spam ans sure enough I had messages that Etsy had put in there. When I moved it to the in box and answered it, I got dinged for untimely response.
Chat was no help. Said they are having technical help trying to work it out and no help correcting my response rate.
bites!
You got dinged because you moved it out of the spam folder which then made it a message with a later reply.
Try moving it back to the spam folder and see if your stats correct themselves in the next 24 hours.
