Hey all! Anyone else having an issue with Etsy automatically applying (my own) Coupon code to a customers order so the items I have on sale in my shop will not apply to there order?
- Customer has tried removing the code from their order multiple times but it keeps coming back at checkout
- I paused the code on my end
- they cleared their cache
- they logged out and back in twice
But the code keeps popping back up in there checkout preventing them from taking advantage of the sale items in their cart. Anyone else having this issue?
Etsy will apply the coupon or the sale, whichever is the best deal for the customer. They cannot apply 2 discounts to the same order.
Thx @AAANativeArts That might be it. I know you can't stack them but it did not occur to me that the code might be a better deal.
What @AAANativeArts says is technically true, but we have noticed that a lower percentage shop wide promo code will (at least sometimes) override a higher percentage coupon which should be applied to a specific item.
@AAANativeArts This is not true (Applying one at a time is true yes), however it is not always the best discount that is applied, I had 2 discounts accidentally on for one product, it was switching between 15% and 40% for each customer, even though on the product page it was showing 40%.. The same for multibuy discount which is 25% is applying to a product that has a 30% discount, the price goes up at the checkout and the customer abandons and messages me complaining.
It does not matter which is the better value. As soon as the coupon code is entered that is the discount the buyer gets. It could be a higher or a lower discount than the sale price. The coupon code reverts the sale price back to the original price and the coupon discount is taken from that original price.
If the coupon is a better deal, in this case, then no problem, if it's not I was going to suggest checking out as a guest, but this may not work as some codes are buyer specific. Thank you and abandoned cart are now, but a code you set up is not. Not sure about favorite coupons.
@NoFrogsAllowed @BagmakerSupply @AAANativeArts The code is a code I have had for years that is printed on my business card. Turns out once I told the buyer what AAANativeArts said above she added up everything in her cart using the coupon code etsy was forcing and also using no coupon and applying the sale items and the totals came out to be the same.
The disheartening bit is even when I went in and paused the Code etsy was still applying it to her order. Only etsy knows what etsy does....
Thx all for the quick helpful responses!
@fabricfetish Was the "Code" created using "Run a Sale" or "Automatically send Offers....."?
Etsy recently made some changes to the terms ofthe automated offers for "Abandoned Cart" and "Thank-you" Discounts. "Abandoned Cart" Codes are now valid for 60 Days and "Thank-you" Codes are valid for one year.
If a Buyer has an active Code, then they have 60 / 360 days to use it. A seller can stop sending these Codes, but past recipients will still be able to apply these. That may explain what is happening for this Buyer.
@CarpetCollectionAU It looks like it is a Thank you offer and it says it is automatically sent to my customers after they make a purchase. Thx for the above info.
Hello.
Is it a code for discount on abandon cart?.
I had one last month they had the items in their cart for a few days so it sent a 10% off cart coupon. But I had a sale on that was a bigger discount and the same thing was happening the code kept overriding and re adding. I spoke to Etsy support. And it was because the code was for the cart that had been active a few days. For the store discount to work they had to empty their cart completely then go back and re add everything to the cart and checkout straight away. As it was no longer a abandon cart discount.
I no longer have coupons. etsy has in the past applied my coupons for items that buyers were not entitled to. Can't trust etsy to do the right thing, so I removed all of them. This is not to say that I don't offer discounts, I do. All repeat customers, people who buy multiple items, and a handful of other reasons - I apply discounts. But coupons? Never again.
