Hello,
I'm just getting started with my shop, and I'm struggling with deactivated listings. I'm making small jewelry pieces out of spices, and the deactivations are really unpredictable - some cardamon items and not others, or some bottles and not others. The one that's pinging now are little earrings made with saffron and resin. I haven't gotten any mails at all (it took me ages to figure out that the listings were deactivated and not just gone).
I tried to contact customer support and just got a canned letter saying the email will tell me what to do differently, and that guessing wrong might lead them to deactivating my entire account. I checked all mail folders, have reviewed policies, checked images to see if something similar might be flagging it, and I cannot figure out what I could possibly be doing wrong.
Is there any way for me to figure out what the problem is? I'm worried to even list anything else, because I'm afraid they'll end up closing down my account.
@CardamomCloveDesigns I think mentioning Iran is the problem because of sanctions.
Those emails are auto sent - check your email spam folder.
They are not in Spam. I did a search on Mail & Spam & Trash, and they weren't in any. Weirdly, I did get the mail responding to my customer service request and saying I needed to check the mails I didn't get.
Double check your email on file to make sure they are using the one you think they are or it wasn't typoed on entry.
You may still get an email. sometimes they get hung up in servers - days, etc.
They don't always email about deactivations. Comb through the policies.
Are they being deactivated immediately upon listing?
Yes, immediately upon listing.
I've been trying to see if the materials are prohibited, but can't find anything about saffron that's problematic. I feel like it must be something about the language I use, but without any kind of indicator about what, I'm a little spooked.
@CardamomCloveDesigns: Could it be that the bot thought you were making medical claims? Your Poppyseed Bottle Necklace says "With documented medicinal uses ..." Remember that descriptions along with titles, tags, and materials (and possibly even alt tags if you are using them) are all probably being checked. And the bots are also "reading" images.
The bots seem to check when a listing is created, renewed and / or edited.
@BagmakerSupply The complete description I had was:
"It is believed that the word saffron passed through Persian, Latin, and French on its way to English, originating in the word zarparān, which means "gold strung." It likely originated in or near Iran or Mesopotamia, but has spread through trade for thousands of years. The brilliant crimson threads are the stigma and styles of a crocus, carefully harvested and dried. Because of the low yield and high labor demands, saffron is more expensive by the ounce than gold.
Saffron threads are set in thin resin triangles in these earrings, whose color and texture are sure to catch the eye. Earring hooks are stainless steel."
"It likely originated in or near Iran"
That is most likely your problem with that listing. Sometimes when they review deactivations they will see that it is a historical reference and not that it was sourced from there and may be reinstated. It's also possible that is why you haven't received an email yet - because the deactivation is automatic based on a trigger word, but it may still be reinstated.
Nice jewelry. I looked to see if I could see what the problem is. Check Etsy house rules on seeds and prohibited plants. Poppy is prohibited, if the bots see that word they will take the listing down. IDK about others but this might be a good place to start searching for answers: https://www.etsy.com/legal/policy/plants-herbs-seeds-and-soil/242685907951
Good luck, once you get it all sorted out it gets easier, rewarding, fun.

That was it!! Thank you so much. I posted with an updated description and it went through.
