If I put in a shipping cost on a custom order, why does ETSY remove it ? I have free shipping set up on orders over $40 when customers place orders themselves in my store. It would make sense that when I create a custom order for someone it would be exactly that, custom. So why remove the shipping costs on that type of order? I had no idea it was removed until I printed out the order.
I can't get it from my customer now and I just lost a decent amount of money due the cost of shipping because of this. Is there not special shipping options that can be used when creating custom orders??? If I can't choose a shipping profile that I have set up, then the custom shipping cost should stay. Because ETSY can't see the shipping information on the custom order anyway.
I learned this the hard way, when I had free shipping enabled. Custom orders are not treated differently. You need to put the shipping cost into the price of the item.

I believe if you have free shipping enabled for orders over a certain amount it will even apply to custom orders. I believe the listing still comes up against any profile even if the item is not listed in the shop but is only for the customer.

Thank you for the feedback. I will do that from now on. This was a costly mistake that I wish I had known about before I sent the custom order.
This is what I do. Just bury the shipping price into the charge for the item.
This also happens with discount sales that apply to your whole shop.
Even a private custom listing is part of your whole shop, so any sales or coupons that are shop wide can be applied.
