Clarification on 'Etsy Ads'

Jump to solution

Hello, I am kinda new but, I must say I love Etsy.  However, as a seller... I must be a idiot!

No traffic at all to my site, played with the tags, no help.  I decided to do some advertising (because I was one in 299 making homemade cards) however, the specifics are kinda vague with $ per click.  I did set a budget however, I need to know is that per item or for all 15? Its the uncertainly. sigh... what type of advertising do you all select when you  were a newbie? How has it been working? I do realize the importance of working up to a 5 star review and willing to put in the work. Thanks in advance - Monica

Traffic to your (and any other) shop comes from search engines.

Your shop is unfinished, and your titles look like "2 Happy Birthday Sweet Friend and Just a Note to cheer you".

I would suggest to turn off Ads right now and ask for shop critique.

@DogwoodAlly: The budget you set is daily for all listings being advertised. You can set which of your listings are advertised if you do not want all included.

However, as to how much traffic they will generate is problematic. FIRST your listing must meet the search requirements to rank high enough to be considered for an ad slot. Then, and only then, Etsy will "auction" off the available ad slots to those qualifying listings that they think will generate the most revenue for them.

You may need to initially drive your own external traffic and sales so that the algorithm learns that people want what you are selling.

Before considering using Ads, you need to improve your SEO

eg this item "LOVE YOGA CATS! Cat Yoga spells love!" you repeat the same 3 words just in a different order -- but nowhere do you say it is a blank greetings card.
Titles should be 2-4 phrases which describe the item without repetition.
Then tags -- you currently have several single word tags. Tags should be multi-word phrases that describe the item again with little repetition.
So not "cat" and "yoga" but "cat yoga"

If your SEO is top-notch, you may well find you do not need to spend out on Ads at all

My shop is new. I started in November and started  ads from the beginning at $2.00 per day and just listed 3 items at a time. I don't know how it all works but it is necessary to push traffic to your shop.
