Maybe someone knows a better way to fix this but because I do digital content I dont use tracking on any of my orders, but because of this I can't get the last badge I need to be eligible. I'm disappointed because I've worked hard and met every other requirement but I can't get my tracking up past 0 percent. I thought maybe I formatted my shops wrong but since you get the option in the finishing order page to select no tracking and digital you would think that it would be fine??
Your using physical listings for a custom digital product, so you have the variation option, right?
Nothing you can do if that's how you need it setup.
Made to order digital is the way around custom digital orders, but it still doesn't offer variations.
You have to chose between getting SS (pointless) or having the listing the way you want it.
You would do yourself a huge favor to learn the difference between genuine fan art, and using those same characters and scenarios to make money from. Fan art is fine to make and share as long as you're not making ANY money from it. Once you put it up for sale, you expose yourself to takedowns, lawsuits and potentially more. "Being inspired by" is not a get-out-of-jail-free card.
Fan art is a copyright and trademark infringement, period. You should always seek the advice of an attorney versus taking legal advice from the general public, present company included.
"Fan art is a copyright and trademark infringement, period."
Sorry to say that this is incorrect. Trademarks and copyrights pertain to commerce, not to the entire arena of creativity. Anyone is free to make any art they choose, but selling that art is when trademarks and copyrights come into play.
@CarmelCartoons: A 100% digital shop will show an on-time shipping and tracking of "---%" (nothing to calculate) not 0% and is Star Seller eligible. Are you setting up your listings as digital or physical (which usually require tracking for Star Seller). Have you looked at the applicable CSV file from your Star Seller page to see which orders Etsy thinks required shipping and / or a tracking number? The data in that file is what determines your Star Seller percentage.
You need to include the licensing information for all of the trademarked and copyrighted names and images in your shop in your listing, otherwise buyers (and Etsy) may conclude they are counterfeits. And a buyer could file a not as described case against you and both get their money back and keep the item. Including the licensing information will show that you are not selling those items illegally. As @PieceByNumberQuilts mentioned, SELLING fan art does not absolve you from having to have permission from the intellectual property owners.
Also we are not supposed to help shops that are breaking the law or Etsy rules.
I’ve only sold one thing on my art listing since it’s decently new and it’s been all original content, that’s primarily for what it is for, but also isn’t the reason I don’t have star seller. I can see that the orders it states don’t have tracking are from my writing. I focus mostly on the writing and that’s my main source of sales. It wouldn’t let me respond to someoneelse but on one of my listings I write letters hand made as well as digital, the listing was edited recently to be just digital since I’m no longer shipping out. Hence why there’s a review that says it came back crushed from the mail system, I gave them a digital copy as reimbursement
@CallMeKZ: While your suggestion is a good one, I doubt that Etsy will implement because it is just too open to abuse by unscrupulous sellers.
"When creating a custom order through an Etsy conversation ..." Next time, you might to follow the procedure outlined on https://community.etsy.com/t5/Announcements/We-ve-improved-our-made-to-order-digital-listing-experie...3 instead of using the flawed custom listing option.

@CappuccinoLace - I'm not sure exactly what a buyer would receive.
In one review the buyer states "it came smashed up" and mentions a shipping company.
But the item is listed as a "digital made to order".
Maybe the switch to DST isn't settling in right, so I'll just say I'm confused, lol.
Darn, yeah I really like having the variations on my writing because it makes it significantly easier for me and I like the layout better. I guess I was worried since I’m new and star seller seemed like it would help me get sales, however I’ve noticed that the badges are already helping so I’m sure I’ll be fine!!
@CarmelCartoons You need to read the information on Star seller. You need to read the information on digital listings including made to order.
You cannot use a physical listing for digital any longer due to the star seller. You will need to work out using made to order digital,
I think this is something Etsy should fix. If a custom order is marked as a Digital Item once the order is completed, that should be an indicator that this shouldn't count against Star Seller status. I am currently running into the same issue.
When creating a custom order through an Etsy conversation, it immediately sends the custom order link to the customer and it's happened twice before to me where the customer checks out before I was able to alter the item to "Made-to-order". I think Etsy should either allow orders to be altered to made-to-order after the sale has been made, or not count completed orders labeled as "Digital items" against the Star Seller status.
This is a long and difficult process. First you need to meet all of etsy's conditions. 5 star reviews, min. $300 in sales (3 months total), quick responses to customer messages, etc.
It is also very important to list the product correctly.
• Be sure to write the product photo ALT tags correctly.
• Even if the product description is not considered a keyword, write it correctly for Google indexing.
• Be sure to add explanatory videos along with photographs to your products.
• Try to upload more photo (min. 6pcs)
• Plan your keywords correctly.
And remember No Pain No Victory.
