In the Seller app, I read a message, went to mark it unread so I could answer it the next time at my computer, and accidentally marked it as spam.
Now at my computer, I found the message and moved to inbox/unmarked as spam. I wrote a reply, but it won't send. I'm getting the error: "Sorry, you can't contact this person right now."
I waited a couple of hours and tried again, but still no-go. How do I fix this?
(I believe the "Mark as Spam" in the Seller app has changed/moved or is new, it seemed to easy to accidentally do and feel this is a bug that should be corrected asap)
This exact thing happened to me TWICE this week! Etsy support was no help. But I found a fix!
You need to go to a desktop (doesn’t work on your phone browser, must be an actual laptop or desktop computer), go to your messages and click on the message you’re trying to reply to. Click on the buyer’s profile to the right of the messages. Scroll to the bottom of their page and click “Unblock this person”. Return to messages and you should now be able to message them.
Note that their reply to you may end up back in the spam folder so keep a close eye on it and move it back as soon as you can. May need to repeat the process above if it goes to spam again.
The mark as spam within the seller app is absolutely new, it definitely wasn't there a couple days ago. I'm sure it's full of glitches just like every other new programming they try implementing around here. My best suggestion is to contact support and see if there's anything they can do.
I've done it again since posting this! I finally talked to support today and you have to go to the person's profile and Unblock them. I mentioned that it was too easy to accidentally mark as spam and he said he'd pass along to developers!
Can you remove it from Spam?
Can you move it out of spam using the app?
a) try moving the message out of spam, then reply to it.
b) the message might be from a scammer, if it is, that may be why you cannot reply, as Etsy may have closed that account.
I think you are right @GalleryAntiques that this was a scammer removed by Etsy.
I just checked my spam folder, and could see the option to reply to one that was merely promotional (not a scammer)
* You should be able to click on the profile name to see if they are still active or a dead page, which would confirm they are no longer on Etsy.

@YourCookieConnection Thank You for this Solution!
Thanks for that. I checked with the genuine message I received the other day that Etsy put in spam, I checked their profile and Etsy had blocked them. I have unblocked them, they might see my reply now.
It's not good that Etsy has taken it upon itself to decide that legitimate (potential) messages are spam, but also block that person, which could result in a lost sale and if the seller does not know to check the spam folder for genuine messages and they do not reply, it gives the potential buyer the wrong impression of the seller. The same applies where Etsy blocks the message sender, the seller's reply will only be seen once they are unblocked.
Ridiculous, utterly ridiculous, this is overkill by Etsy in their efforts to curb scams and spam messages. They seriously need to sort this out now, not later, but with the growing amount of glitches on the site or with the seller app, I think we'll be waiting a long time.
Yes! I had Etsy support call me and they walked me through unblocking, I didn't even know this was an option/possible. Pinning this post for anyone else dealing with this. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the solution, it actually works to "Unblock this person" form their profile.
Very helpful, Thank you!
Ah, thanks! I read you had to un-block the user on a different thread, but couldn't find anything. Turns out the button to do so is some quite small text at the bottom of the page, no way near any of their details. It's even under all the other suggested items, which is crazy.
It's an unnecessary change, we all know that the scammers will find a workaround so we accept at first and then eventually we will send to spam anyway after they respond with the standard scam copy. There are more important things here they should be fixing first.
Yes, and I think I needlessly blocked a buyer. I never expected an immediate BLOCK when I listed to Etsy and marked it as SPAM. Not good.
I agree and Thank You for the reply!
