Hi!
I have been having issues with some orders missing the name of the recipient or part of the address.
Some orders have come in with simply "me" instead of the recipient's name.
Another order was missing the house number. In this case, a few messages with the customer told me that he had paid through ApplePay and name and address had been handled by ApplePay.
Is there any way to add a few lines of code to prompt the customer to manually add missing names or parts of their address? Or to prompt AI to fill in all required fields?
they are prompted twice to check their name and address,
they are obviously saying it's fine, when it isn't
I don't have a house number, please don't force them on us.
and really NOT AI, royal mails suggestions are bad enough, without AI guessing
and "the occupier" is fine for a name
No, I'm not suggesting anything should be forced on anyone, but it would be nice to avoid delays because the address needs to be verified by the customer.
The AI is doing nothing to the address. It is up to the buyer to enter the information correctly. They have that chance when they sign up for an account. If in the US it is verified.
They have the ability to check at the time of purchase.
Using Me sounds like the buyer is being cute. In the US it can be shipped as names are not important.
You would be surprised how many do not know how to formally write their address. They are sloppy with their addresses because other systems allow them to do so.
With US addresses they can be verified. I make small changes based on that verification. With international I check format. And even if some appear odd to me, if the format is clear enough delivery occurs just fine,
Just to recap the buyer has ample opportunity to check their address. If they don't the onus is on them especially if they live in the US.
I've had buyers use ApplePay & PayPal & it imported an old or incorrect address onto Etsy. The address needs to be correct with the payment provider. Customers still get the chance to review the address for accuracy before submitting the order. Some buyers just don't pay attention or move too fast.
But I've never understood how Etsy can have orders submitted with NO street address at all. I have had that numerous times. I've purchased on other websites that won't allow me to submit the order without a street address. I get customers who add their last name for the street address. I've had several orders come through where a 4 digit code was used for the STATE. How is that even possible when you select a state from a dropdown menu when buying??
Wow, so even worse things await! I'll keep my eyes open for that.
I've seen that happen with Paypal, with whatever address the Buyer has on PP overriding the one they entered on Etsy. I have on my "Note to Buyer" that goes out at the bottom of the transaction email - "Look up ^^ this is the address you have on the order - if it is not correct, please let me know right away"
I know some people read it, because I have gotten messages correcting or confirming the address on their order. But yes, errors happen once in a while.
Yeah, it's a good way to alert customers... Now, how to get them to read the message?
