For a crafter the CPSIA label must include at minimum :
* Your company or shop name (or RN# if your company's name appears elsewhere on a permanant label on the product)
* The city, state/territory, & country where the item was completed
* The date of manufacture or completion of the product
* If you make repeats of the designs then you may also need a batch number, but only if the pieces are mostly identical looking and made of the same exact raw materials as each other and where made or completed on the same day.
For CPSIA Tracking labels
http://www.cpsc.gov/about/cpsia/sect103policy.pdf http://www.cpsc.gov/about/cpsia/sect103.html#103q8 The FTC label needs at the very least:
- Your company, shop name, or RN# (use which every does not appear on the CPSIA label so not to repeat)
- Fiber content by %
- Fiber's country of origin
- Washing and care instructions
Other info may be required depending on the exact fabrics use like registered trademark info for fabrics that are followed by a ® or the internation symbols for care instructions.
For fabric and fiber items FTC Labeling requirements
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/business/textile/bus21.shtm#covered http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/business/textile/bus50.shtmIn some cases an item maybe excluded from needing a FTC label but still require a CPSIA label to be compliant. As both agencies have regulations about the appearance and what visable at a glance you may need two seperate labels.
In additional, even if your basic raw materials are all exempt, you still need to be able to tell the government, if ever asked, exactly what components went in to the making of a specific piece. So you will need to keep records that stay in your possession of any and all documents from your suppliers that either show the component is exempt or has test results and be able to link them to what products you used them in.
