Hi there!

When I’m creating, I need to listen to something that will motivate me to keep going. Whether I’m knitting, cross-stitching or baking, I’m always playing records to get myself in the right frame of mind.

Do you listen to music while you make? If so, what kind do you choose? Why do you listen to the songs or artists that you do? Do they amp you up and get you excited to take on the day? Do they drive you to create more? Do you prefer music that calms you when things are stressful? Does it help keep you focused? Do you listen to music that will entertain you when work feels monotonous? Do you like something with a good beat to dance to when you need a little break?

What are some songs or artists you often play in the studio? Share your thoughts and music recommendations in this thread!

Podcasts! They're the best thing I've found because they're interesting but not at all distracting.

You will always hear music coming from my studio! Pandora is a constant background noise.. Sade, Nora Jones, Dido radio.. Lots of girl power there for a soft jazzy motivation..
And when it's raining soft Secret Garden Radio on pandora compliments the mood!

Re: What music do you listen to while you make?

I'm an eclectic person when it comes to music. I like classical, jazz, gospel and reggae. The type of mood i'm in sets the stage for the type of music I'll need to listen to. If I'm feeling really upbeat I'll listen to reggae. If I need inspiration, I'll listen to classical and if I'm having a spiritual moment I'll listen to gospel. Jazz is good anytime for me to listen to.

Re: What music do you listen to while you make?

Music is a must for me while working and it needs to be LOUD. A lot of the signs that I make are inspired by music lyrics, mostly old rock from the late 60's to the 70's. I also listen to a local musician and his band called Bryan Elijah Smith and the Black Hearts.

I will either listen to Today's Country on Pandora or Hip Hop and Pop. Upbeat songs always get me going when I am making a swimsuit or accessories! I find if I can dance a little while making something I feel a lot better about the end product because it was fun to make it.

Re: What music do you listen to while you make?

I've been listening to a lot of jazz or piano while I work. It's nice background & keeps me a little more focused than what I'd listen to normally...lots of pop, country, rock & indie. :)

I tend to prefer listening to radio shows (like On Being with Krista Tippet, a philosophical show) or lectures, like TED Talks.

Re: What music do you listen to while you make?

Hello, music is my life...many different artists....unfortunately, my CD selection remains unchanging pretty much...will try to fix that soon. But here are the artists I currently work and live by...Moby, Tori Amos, Sade, Jewel, Sheryl Crow just to mention a few. And it does depend what music I listen to for various mood settings.

Re: What music do you listen to while you make?

I usually turn on the TV to SiriusXM for either 80's music or classical. Sometimes I play my Spotify list, which includes a wide variety of music. I also really enjoy the Irish singer/musician named Lisa Hannigan a lot. At Christmas time, I LOVE to play Christmas music.

I have a dozen pandora stations, but I usually go either with a book on tape, or with a netflix show on my ipad in the workshop.
