What music do you listen to while you make?

Hi there!

When I’m creating, I need to listen to something that will motivate me to keep going. Whether I’m knitting, cross-stitching or baking, I’m always playing records to get myself in the right frame of mind.

Do you listen to music while you make? If so, what kind do you choose? Why do you listen to the songs or artists that you do? Do they amp you up and get you excited to take on the day? Do they drive you to create more? Do you prefer music that calms you when things are stressful? Does it help keep you focused? Do you listen to music that will entertain you when work feels monotonous? Do you like something with a good beat to dance to when you need a little break?

Now, that depends upon if I need revving up--then I like U2, Styx, Pink Floyd--or mellowing out--Norah Jones, Moody Blues, Adele. I usually play a mix of all types, but there are those special days that need to be more focused.

Depends on what kind of mood I'm in. I like to listen to Praise and Worship...like Chris Tomlin or Matt Maher if I'm in a quiet mood. If I'm in a funny mood, I like to listen to more spunky music or comedy stuff like Tim Hawkins.

I love an array of of music, and yes I listen to music while making, and while doing everything else pretty much! Some of my favs that are a mainstay for me are Bruno Mars, Sting, U2, Coldplay, Enrique Iglesias, just to name a few!

I usually end up listening to jazz, or 1950s music and if I am working on holiday items, I listen to christmas songs to get me in the mood. I know these are a bit unusual music choices but the help me stay focused and are often upbeat and put me in a good mood.

I listen all kinds of music but my favourite is hard rock it keeps me energetic and motivated so I keep working. Sometimes I also play the 70s radio on spotify! I like grunge too, but it's not the best for work... lol

Ashley, I know Thanksgiving hasn't had its moment yet, but I am ALL ABOUT the Christmas music right now. And I watch Netflix endlessly--I just finished Parks & Rec all over again!

I love listening to nightcore music while I work on things. Most of it's really upbeat (it's like sped up remixes of normal songs) so it's good to keep energy going.

While knitting, I turn on Netflix to a show I've already seen (friends, frasier, etc) makes good background noise.

Painting on the other hand, I really like Spotify's Jazz station.

My iPhone is always playing Pandora radio when I sew...everything from Led Zeppelin to Rusted Root or The Cure. Music motivates me so much when I'm sewing, sometimes I find myself dancing between the ironing board and sewing table when inspiration hits.

I find Carrie Underwood to be very inspiring when I'm making jewelry, but my taste in music is a very broad range! I think it all depends on my mood and also a lot of the time a piece will be inspired by a specific song that I put onto repeat play. Calvin Harris feat. Haim "Pray to God" is a very inspiring song. No, it's not a religious song, but if you get the chance,look it up on YouTube - the video is awesome! Sometimes I like to make jewelry while listening to Metallica, but then again sometimes it's Barbra Streisand. Music has always had a heavy influence on me. There's another great song by Epica called "Unleashed" which is so cool and if you can, check out the video for that. I made an elaborate necklace while listening to that over and over and it sold after only ten minutes of being on Etsy (that was a feat I never expected!). Anyway, blah blah blah...I love music and it inspires my work!
