Marketing your business on social media can be intimidating. Maybe you’re not sure how often to post or what kind of content is appropriate to share. But a strong presence on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram is a great way to connect with your target market as well as build relationships with trendsetters and potential collaborators. Join us on September 14 at 11:30 a.m. US ET in the Online Labs ( http://etsy.me/labs914), where we’ll discuss how to create a compelling social media presence. We’ll talk about choosing the right platforms, engaging your audience, and staying true to your values.

In addition to highlighting and answering your questions throughout the live event, we’ll call out shops from this thread that are doing an amazing job with social media. I opened my shop 2 weeks ago and realize that social media is going to be key for getting the word out. I'm curious which avenues have the biggest return. It's all so time consuming and I want to make sure I'm focusing my attention most effectively. Thanks.

I just realized the 11:30am lab tomorrow is 5:30am Hawaii time so I will not be able to join live. I do have a question, however. I am using fb as my website for now and cannot find the time to post each day. I post at least 3 times a week though. I would like to spend one morning a week to schedule all of my posts for the week. Could you explain how to schedule posts in advance? Also, I find myself posting a photo to fb and the same one to instagram? Is that a problem? I have several follows on instagram that don't follow me on fb.

Currently I don't have much social media presence at all. I tweet mostly but also have a Facebook account which has been seriously neglected. Mostly I'm just intimidated (too old) & I've never been good at self taught. I'd like to hire someone on a temp basis to help me get started with Instagram & Pinterest & help me use Twitter & Facebook more effectively.

I have a twitter acc't and have even posted to it...really don't understand what it's all about...I see some people on Etsy post daily...my questions:

1. is it imp't to follow people and vice versa?

2. when posting a link from my Etsy shop how to have the pic posted?

3. how imp't is it to promote other's shops, items etc?

4. should you follow EVERYONE who follows you?

my shop just recently opened, however, i have been running a facebook page to promote the upcoming etsy shop since february or so -- i am also on pinterest, but am not as diligent as i need to be with it -- do i need to be on other social media? www.facebook.com/bullockwhatknots

I don't know where to begin. I had friends help me create a Facebook page and I created an Instagram page as well. I haven't received any business from either. I don't post all the time, but if posting often is the way to go I am willing to give it a try...

Thanks for the informative session, it was my first one!
In keeping with the advice given, I so far have just blogs as my platforms. They are new, not a big following yet but I feel like I have the hang of them now. I am looking to tackle another platform but am not sure which one- I'm leaning towards pintarest and twitter. Any advice on which or if something else is better?
