Would appreciate some help

I have been on etsy for a while and things have been steadily improving before they started declining sometime last year. I have been continuing doing the usual things, but I suspect I have to start doing something new. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Wedunit Jewels: Beautiful jewelry in your shop! I think what might have happened before is that you were making sales based primarily on photos and luck in getting seen in searches. Now that there's more competition, possibly you need to up your game as far as SEO goes, and also with the copy. Couple things:

First thing to do is decide what your main objective is. The very first thing a buyer sees is an invitation to go to your outside website. If that is your goal, then fine. But if not, you've just lost a customer in your Etsy shop! If you want people to purchase here, then focus on Etsy and put any links to your outside website toward the end of your pages.

Also, there's more space that you can use in many pages to emphasize some of the special qualities of your jewelry. Right now there are only descriptions. You have lots of competition, so try to figure out what's so special about your items, what the top selling points are, what value your jewelry adds, and so forth.

Related to this is the About page. Currently you start off: "At Wedunit Jewels (pronouced We-dunit), my main focus is customer service." Is that really true? Not quality, beauty, style, quality of life, enhancing a person's lifestyle, or other messages along those lines? Think more carefully about what it is you would like to tell buyers. What will engage them and make them want to know more?

Also get going on the SEO. Ask for Mary's tips or even consider her professional services.

Hope all of this helps! Best of luck to you and your lovely shop!

Re: Would appreciate some help

Wedunit,

Most of your listings seem to have good keyword phrases. With some keyword research using Google Adwords Keyword Planner, you can find more keywords that shoppers use and can remove the words that shoppers are not using from the listing titles and tags. Using keywords that are known to be popular with shoppers is critical for the success of your shop in both Etsy and Google searches.

Most sellers are not aware of this but sales history is a very big part of Etsy's search algorithm. Your shop has a good number of sales, high enough to move up higher in the search results when you are using great keywords. You should have a mix of few targeted long tail keywords and a few general keywords.

It will take time for your listings to work their way up to where most of the shoppers are at the top of the search results. All SEO efforts must start with using the keywords that shoppers use. Once good keywords are in place, views and sales will continue to increase as sales build up.

I recommend finding a niche jewelry market in Etsy's crowded jewelry market and using keywords appropriate to your niche market.

Re: Would appreciate some help

Thank you to Mary and Barbara.
So far, I have researched my keywords on etsy, but that doesn't really seem to help that much. I will go back to google to do some more work there.

I have had problems with Australian buyers because my shop is in US dollars (the currency exchange rate changed dramatically in a short time, making everything quite expensive for Australian buyers), that's why I am showing the link to a shop in Australian dollars early to avoid complaints.

Thanks again.

Re: Would appreciate some help

I have one more question for Mary:

I sometimes replicate designs I had sold quite a while ago (a year back or even more). I am wondering whether it's worth it to use the old listing (if it has been marked favorite by some people) or make a new one? It doesn't save time as I have to change a lot of things on the listing, but it has been marked favorite by several people.

Thanks
