Dwindling Views

The past few days my views have been really dwindling, today there isn't even 10. I've never had a ton of activity coming from searches.

I'm honestly not even sure I know what to do to make my listings more searchable or how to adjust my tags. I've used everything I would think someone might search for. I've adjusted them based on some searches that have come through on my website and on Etsy, but I don't have a lot to work off of.

I was trying to go through my welcome page and stuff today to try to add more keywords.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Re: Dwindling Views

I wish I could help, I've been having the same issue all week! I'm at a total loss for what to do! I've asked for critiques and been told my titles and tags are good..I have over a hundred items, and even when I first opened shop I had more views than I'm getting now. Must be slow time on Etsy...=/

Re: Dwindling Views

Rebecca, don't give up!
There are more things you can do:
-post 1 new item or relist 1 every day,
-look at treasuries others are making and comment on them
-make 1 treasury each day
-browse the shops and favorite items you like
Important thing is to move around not just fill the shop and wait.
Titles are also important. The first 3 words are most important so put the most relevant information in the beginning of the titles.
I just took a peek into your shop. It has potential. If you would like more of my opinions (not that I'm an expert) please convo me.
:-)

Sorry I'm so late to this thread.
For Rebecca, the only thing I can think of is look at which key words people are using that trigger your shop listings and keep those. And then put in a keyword that's in the ballpark of what you think the product would be best used for like baby nursery, kitchen decor, gift, and such. I'm still learning myself on what keywords would be best, so tinkering never hurts.

Newbie question - Hi, I have a question about relisting as opposed to posting a new item ~ how often do most people repost an item (not sold yet) to keep it in the first pages of their search catagory? Thanks!

Re: Dwindling Views

My views are at an all time low this month. I am here to delve into learning how to turn things around.

Daniela said the first 3 words in the title of a listing are the most important-is this really true?

Re: Dwindling Views

I am having very low views as well - maybe it is just that time of year. I notice from last year's stats that January to April was very slow but it picked up after that. I am hoping that is the case this year and not that Etsy has mucked around with something causing views/sales to dry up.

Re: Dwindling Views

There are at least 2 reasons why the views are low this month. The biggest is probably tax time. A lot of people are either busy or broke. The other thing is that Etsy has been running what they call a "test" that results in people using Firefox not seeing Etsy listings when they do a search on Etsy. This has been going on way too long and I'm wondering if it's not really a test but a major problem. Whatever, I know it is affecting sales.

Re: Dwindling Views

I use firefox but haven't noticed any problems searching Etsy - but I can see how that would drastically reduce views! Most of the people I know use firefox.

Re: Dwindling Views

Elissa, It is usually a waste of money to relist items just to keep them on the first pages. You can edit them instead and it goes to google as a new listing. Otherwise your listing expire with google in 30 days after you list them. That is, Etsy only pays for 30 days worth of google listings but you can edit your listings to get another 30 days.

Re: Dwindling Views

OP -- you have an adorable shop. I just faved a bunch of items and your shop. I'm not sure what you're already doing, but networking, reaching out, joining teams, making friends, etc., has helped me a lot. And yes, the first three words of your title are the most important. They should be "the noun" people would search for, and the rest of the title should be "the adjectives." At least, that's how I think about it.

Re: Dwindling Views

If you want to increase your views from searches, think about how your buyer would search if they were looking for what you are selling.

For example, if I were looking for a cross stitch picture or wall hanging, that's what I'd be searching for.

But if I Search your shop even for 'wall hanging' or 'framed picture' I don't find anything.

People may not know that they want a cross stitch picture specifically but they will know that they want a 'kitchen wall hanging' or a 'kitchen mixer picture'. You get the idea.

So I'd suggest that you start with that and take it from there.

As to being in the 'first pages' of a search category, the only way to be in the first few pages of any (relevancy) search is to have a title that contains phrases that people are searching for.

So if I'm looking for a 'red dress' it doesn't matter what page your dress is on if its not called a 'red dress' as I won't see it.

Renewing? The only time I renew items is when they are about to expire. I've had many people purchase items that have been listed in the shop for 3 months or more. The only reason they haven't sold earlier is because the 'right' buyer hasn't found them before then.

Re: Dwindling Views

Rebecca - I really like your artwork! I know that cross stitching is time consuming, but I think it would be great if you had some larger sizes also.

I think you should try working on your titles. Almost all of your listings begin with "Framed". Lots of people are probably not going to search using that exact word.

You have a lot of listings, I would suggest varying the titles a little and see what works. Maybe focusing on the colors, or words like "geometric", "modern", "colorful". Most people searching probably won't know that they really want a Framed Triangle Cross Stitch until they see it. So if the title is a little more encompassing in the beginning, I think it will get more views.

Also, I could see your kitchen mixer piece being a cute housewarming gift, or a gift for newly weds, maybe try focusing on what the final use of the product will be.

Good luck! It seems like views are down for the month of April anyway, I know they have been for me!

Re: Dwindling Views

Oh, one last thing... have you considered putting some of your images on a white/grey background? I think in some of the listings, the colored background brings out the color of the art, but in some cases it is overpowering your art. For example in the ampersand piece and the maroon houndstooth, I think it is overpowering, but in your blue and green diagonal stripes and the purple and red chevron the background works well.
