"Last week, I found a shop selling copyrighted itemes. Since I'm new on etsy, I didn't know what to do, and asked for advice in the forums, and were told to report them to etsy and contact the company who's item the shop was selling. And so I did, and I recieved two thankful mails from the company, and the shop is now gone. But to my not so pleasent suprise, I get a warning mail from etsy:
"****etsy rule cut-out here****"
The shop was not identified, and the post was certainly constructive, I was wondering how to deal with the situation.
But apparently asking for advice on what to do isn't legal, even though the unidentified shop was doing something illegal, and from now on, I'll leave Etsy to sort out their own bad eggs."
Apparently you're not allowed to cite anything from e-mails, even rules, anywhere...
Ah, Welcome to that great big "grey" area Tuva. I myself seem to be stuck in that area. And just when you think you've understood all the rules and found that dividing line, the area expands and once again envelopes you.
What I find particularly sad is how people have gotten so intimidated by the administrators from etsy, they ask me to delete their posts - it's pretty sad when you can't exercise the right to speak your mind without having some bureaucrat shut down your shop and threaten your business.
Well it's official, I am now perma-muted. I haven't even posted in the forums for over a week out of fear, but they just handed down my sentencing for my 3rd post being removed a while back, I guess they've been backlogged and just got to me. I'm seriously thinking of closing my shop and moving on to a different venue where the rules of conduct are clearer and not so subjective and I don't have to live in fear for giving my opinion. I just can't believe that permanently banning a member is so prevalent, geez even prisoners get parole.
Okay a thread that asks the question........... Chips ahoy or Oreos? I am an Oreo girl myself. We are really missing out on any thought provoking discussions guys! ;)
***Note to anyone reading this. I asked Susan to remove some of my posts that described the reason I was muted because I worried that if I repeated the "offending" post it could upset the powers that be again. Better safe then sorry.
I believe (if I remember correctly) I had more than three posts removed when I got my week off. The first post that was deleted after that got me removed for good.
Yup, it's the ol' 3 strikes rule. 1st a warning. 2nd a 7day time out and 3rd you're outa here baby, it's been nice but don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. I just think a perma mute is too severe. I mean, if your kid misbehaves more the twice you gonna stick him in the corner for a time out till he's 18. And even murderers have gotten paroled. I guess edgy comments are are worse the murder or bratty kids. Thank god etsy doesn't have the death penalty, lol. I also feel that all the good things we say are over looked. If I've posted 100 comments and only 3 are objectionable, that's a 97% success rate. Shit, I should get an A and a medal not a perma mute, lol. Edited for spelling
Yes Cathy, I think our little group should be called the "A team", lol and they can do a spin off of the original show starring the muted members of etsy. We might get a viewer discretion warning but I think we'd be a hit ;)
Hi everyone!! Well, the shoe finally dropped and I was muted "indefinitely". I knew it was only a matter of time after my second warning. I think the admins want to get rid of certain posters, ones that talk about the reselling situation that is out of control here. So I was perma-muted for being "sarcastic and mean". I was just returning the snark that was being directed at me from koolaid swilling brown nosers. I'm sure they didn't even get a slap. They are so clever with their snark. Oh well, the forums are pretty boring anyway. And, now I have more free time for creating new product. But, I'm still pissed! How exactly do you determine sarcastic and mean with just written words??? So, that's my vent. Glad to see I'm not alone in "banned from the forums forever"!!
It's funny Dianna, I have seen a lot of sarcastic posts this morning and so far no one has had their hand slapped. As you said some are allowed to get away with it and others are nipped right away. Oh well, I always figured that etsy was too good to be true... No you are not alone it seems we are getting stronger in numbers as more and more people get fed up with the status quo...welcome!
