Like a couple of others on our team, I am new to selling on Etsy. How long did it take for seasoned sellers to make their first sale? Love to hear from you!
My store is still in it's baby phase! LOL I've only been open since the start of march and still yet to make a sale. I have also dropped my prices slightly during this time to see if I could manage a sale... Nothing yet but I'm still creating and adding more items! Good luck everyone and remember not to give up just yet!
I'm new to Etsy too. It took just under 2 weeks to make my first sale..and now waiting anxiously for the next one! My first sale was an item that had been featured in a Treasury the day before. It's one way to make connections with other sellers too.
Kelly and Adam's advice is a great summary of most of the Etsy newsletters I've read and Online Labs I've watched. I can highly recommend them. And for motivation check out a vid by Chad Dickerson (CEO Etsy). Amongst all my angst wondering how to generate sales, it reminded me WHY I'm doing this.
I've just added coupon codes - giving out one to my facebook followers and a Thank you one to buyers. Has anyone else tried coupons, or have any advice on their success?
And good luck everyone, I agree with Leah, don't give up just yet - you've already achieved so much being on Etsy!!
I've studied the Sellers Handbook so many times I'm amazed I don't know it word for word ;) Each time I read it I find something else that now needs to be implemented or changed.
@Leah: hi! don't drop your prices for sales... it only means more work for less money! Our photog shop here might not sell as much as we'd hope, but we'll never drop our prices. You need to value the work you do and make sure you have a healthy profit so your business can thrive! Don't forget, it can take awhile to get your name out (even if you've been selling offline!) so patience is really needed :D
@Nicola: hi to you too! firstly, don't be discouraged by the lack of sales, you're in the most over saturated market there is on the site ;) Love you work btw! As for coupon codes, we've had one advertised in our banner, on twitter, facebook, blog and wanelo for the last 3 weeks and although we've had purchases, no one has used it. Seems to happen a lot. I think it really depends on what sort of discount you offer. I've seen shops that it works wonders for and then others like us who get no extra traffic and no sales. I do them every now and again but they're not part of our marketing strategy.
I have been trying to sell my artwork since 2010 and still it is a struggle. Don't know what I am doing wrong. I see so many talented Australians on etsy and wonder how they are doing? Any advice would be appreciated.
I recently re opened my Shop with a new range of Upcycled Domino and Scrabble Jewellery. I have made no sales as yet on these items. I have been adding wonderful items to Treasuries and Following many other sellers. I'm unsure of how to use Coupon Codes ect. Please take a look at my shop and comment or inbox me any ideas you may have to boost my Shop.
I made my first sale on Wednesday last week!! It was an order for 6 different Custom Monogram Die Cuts!! Have to say, if I wasn't selling internationally I wouldn't have made the sale. :D
Leah - Congratulations on your sale :) Nicola - I've been making a treasury of things for Weddings and like one of your necklaces and will be adding it.
I am by no means a seasoned seller; I've had my etsy account for a couple of years but I have only started selling eight days ago. I've made my first sale on day five! =) that was really cool!
I did do some research beforehand, so I'd say it's an important thing to do; read what others have to say, read critiques, read feedback. i did. it made me think about the way i take pictures, how to layout stuff, the light, the works. it does take time, but it seems to be worth it.
another thing is joining communities and being active, looking at other people's stuff, supporting their efforts, and making treasuries. I make most of mine on a whim, adding stuff i like the look of - and that teaches me how to treat my own artwork.
This is also for the case for me. I opened my shop up a couple of months ago and whilst I get a steady amount of views I am still yet to have a sale. Thanks for the tips and I look forward to the future.
I am fairly new to Etsy selling also. I was so excited to make my first sale a few weeks after starting. I thought that I had won the lotto! However it has been very slow since.... I tried adding new products, and also starting a Facebook page to promote my products. I was so excited today to find one of my products included on a treasury list! I have had most success through word of mouth, mainly having some products with me to show people. More recently this has led to a number of custom orders, which have been great. Not sure what the secret to wider success is though. Good luck, love to hear how you get on. Gerda
Hi Gerda - definitely making treasuries and participating in teams! Australian Wandarrah is great for this and whenever I am "spotlighted" I always make a couple of sales and get lots of traffic to my shop. Favouriting others is also good, because they often favourite you back. Good luck!
