Anyone out there?

I know that everyone here wants their shop to be a success, I am looking at the top several threads ex.

what isn't selling, list them here,
Julys listings
let's see your newest listings
what are you promoting
new, new, new
new listings for July

I can tell you from personal experience, I have listed in these types of threads.. but very rarely do I read them. I tend to post them when my views are low and sales just aren't happening.

Listing in these threads deffinately show that you want your items o be seen.. my question is are they seen?

I have purchased from many sellers on etsy, some because I liked their forum posts and they had a interesting avatar. I am just a little sad that there are so many threads dedicated to showing your product .. rather than focussing on bettering our shops..

Sorry for the rant

Re: Anyone out there?

I was thinking the very same thing the other day when I posted in a thread like the one you described, all the posts were listings, never and comments on them, perhaps it is the hope of the hopeless? lol it might help, but you're right, being a 'good neighbor' around Esty in general will probably drum up more goodwill (and in turn more sales) in my opinion. And don't be sorry for ranting, it's good for you sometimes, well I think it is... ;)

Good luck and take care fellow Etsian.

Re: Anyone out there?

Well, I do list in the type of posts you mention and I do make a point of reading at least 3 pages back each time I post something new. I also feel doing so has helped my shop and hope it helps others.

That said, I also notice that most of the threads have become "showing" threads and it is nice to have a thread aimed at community and comradery, which is I think what this team is intended to be about. I also think it's up to us to keep this kind of thread going by posting to it so that it doesn't fall off before any of us can benefit from the sharing, so remember that if you are enjoying reading the thread, post to it :).

Thanks, Laura

Re: Anyone out there?

I think the threads showing product are helpful in getting some exposure to your shop, but I also use them as my primary source when making Team Treasuries.

That is a really good idea, it takes me way too many hours when I make mine.

Thanks for the idea!

Re: Anyone out there?

Thanks for the post. Yes, newbie's helping newbies... that is a great thing!

I too, try to look at 5 items before me when promoting and try to favor (aka admire) the ones I like, but at least give them views! But it is nice to have the fellowship in a team too!

Happy Weekend everyone.

Re: Anyone out there?

Agree agree agree! When I first joined this team it was all about helping each other: people asking for advice, posting their brand new blog address or Facebook page, getting ideas on making pictures better, and ideas for getting your shop name out there for people to see.

Lately all the posts are all about PROMOTING. All about me, me, me. No help for anyone. And if anyone asked for help, it maybe got one or two responses. And I agree, I'm guilty of posting and running, but this post made me really think. This is NOT what this team is about. If we want to promote ourselves we should join a promotion focused team. There are plenty out there. A few promotional threads are fine, but it's totally out of control now.

Glad you ranted heathernwells :-)
We all need to think about helping each other out more.

Re: Anyone out there?

I disagree.
I know for a fact that alot of sales have come from "Items not selling" list them here. I origionally started that post, and have sold 4 items myself, and have had others thank me for starting it, because they had sold items too.
Anyone can list their items there....how else does the exposure come?

I think that's being helpful.....
I alway's read what the shop owner writes.....pick favorite items....and click on their shops
Unfortunately, I am not in a position to be a buyer....right now...do I see items I would love to purchase? Absolutely! Losing my job last year...is one of the reasons we started our etsy shop...for extra income.
I would like to think these "threads" are very helpful to all of us.

Sorry if I ranted.

Re: Anyone out there?

Hey Angela, let me reiterate threads like "items not selling" ARE really helpful, have helped me go from no sales to one per week when I'm participating which is kind of a big deal to me though it is certainly not in league with other shops! I also learned about relisting through our team (huge) and many other tips.
Like IsleOfOwlie I DO also feel we need to pay attention to the question asking, support needing posts here and if we don't comment when we can they fall into cyberspace. Previously, I didn't realize I could bump my own thread to keep it visible till I got an answer, and it was disappointing when no one answered.
Anyway, here's to a happy medium! There are sooooo many ways we can help each other!

Re: Anyone out there?

Hey BeHappiness...
Thank you for that. I really didn't mean to make it all about just us.
I genuinely wanted to help other shops sell:)

Re: Anyone out there?

Hey everyone

I have only just joined etsy this week, joined this thread hoping for support and advice, so I am so very pleased to see this thread!

I am very excited to be here and am loving making my shop, I am also looking forward to chatting to all you lovely etsians! I did post in a promo thread on here a day or so ago, making sure to comment on others work and them got no comments back so was a tad disappointed! Glad there are others here who want to chat and support each other- although I do agree the promo threads ARE a good idea, bit of both I say!

Re: Anyone out there?

I posted in the "new items" and what-not threads every time I have listed a new item, and I have to say that it has brought no sales to my shop what-so-ever -- plenty of admirers, but no sales. So, I decided to try a different tactic by posting on threads like this one in hopes that people will like my thoughts and my avatar, just like Heather said. That hasn't helped either, but I will keep on truckin', and force you all to put up with me and my thoughts!

Re: Anyone out there?

I want to be clear that my post was not putting down "new item" threads. Clearly they have worked for people, and I am not giving up hope that someday someone might see an item of mine in a "new item" thread and buy it, it just hasn't worked yet. I know my shop is quite new and that it takes a lot of work, and I'm hoping that by posting more in threads than I used to while also letting others know about my new items will help get me noticed even more!
