Re: October, Now Open for Chat

Good Afternoon! Busy here.

I had the saddle fitter out yesterday, so I took the day off to catch up at the barn. It was wonderful! The weather was really nice yesterday. Very fall in Oklahoma like (which means 70s instead of 90s). Back into the 90s this week. Plus...it was just nice to have a break from everyone for the day. Between vacation with the in-laws and DH to right back to work...I was ready for a little bit of quiet time.

I'm just catching up on the thread.

Pennee...I would have preferred to have started Hope as a 2 year-old...turned her out and then revisited at 4, but she was almost 4 when I bought her, so I didn't have a say in that process. She had been handled, but there were still a lot of gaps. It's not really a big issue...Andalusian's are very late to mature...so her 4 year-old body and mind are more like a 3 1/2. She just needs some time to grow and take a mental break.

Terri...OMG...a horse rearing and flipping over is one of my biggest fears. When Millie started rearing last year, the possibility of her flipping over came to mind, and it's a big reason why I started evaluating what was going on and we really started to dig to find out what the issue was. She has never been a horse that rears, so to have the behavior start up at such an advanced age, it was worth investigating. I will ride out a lot of things...but rearing is just not one of them. Much like Pennee...I've been tossed in the dirt, ran away with, had Millie spook and go 3 feet sideways to the next arena over once in a clinic (that was entertaining). Never experienced the water landing though.

Wow, CG...snow already! It seems early, but then again...it's already October. Same here, Gayle...we were in Alaska mid-September and you could feel the chill in the air. It was so beautiful, but I couldn't handle those temperatures. 40-50F to me is cold.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

Totally agree with CG on the laser welder. Even with heat shield, you can still burn the pearl up or destroy the nacre on the pearl. It's a gamble, especially since you don't have a lot of clearance between the torch and the pearl.

Can you add the laser welding charge as a sizing fee? Or...would it be easier to make a new set in the correct size? I know time may be an issue.

I've never had much luck with heat shield and delicate stones.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

I have made lunches, taken a shower, listed new earrings, proofread something for my husband, played Candyland, unloaded laundry from the dryer and made sweet tea.

I'm ready for a nap, now.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

Sue's question is above my current pay grade.

Pennee - come near me!!! The east coast has a better breeze, the ocean and I-95. Melbourne is just below the frost line. I'm sure you can find a rental where you can take your kitty. And you can come play in my studio with me. If you can stand the mess.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

I'm ready for a nap as well.

Moved 3 bags of feed this morning...did a load of laundry while I was getting ready for work,,,went to the office. Working in the office currently, then home to have some studio time and prep for my show next weekend. I'm trying to locate all my tubs of displays and show items...along with learning how to work my new square reader.

My allergies are driving me nuts! Thank you ragweed!

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

thx guys.
pennee- I do use vigor heat shield and I agree, it's the only one that's ever worked right for me. I still think i'll go with the laser. I usually offer free sizing, I sort of build that into the price of rings. but I don't build it into the price of bracelets. I don't think I can tell her now that i'm going to charge her an additional 90 bucks. i'll just eat it and roll it into the "good will" file. bah.
well, my hair looks good for a change! I think i'll go out for a steak and a martini. the way I usually look generally precludes a public appearance anywhere but Arby's. ha.
hi chrissi!! your pics from Alaska looked beautiful.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

Hi ya Sue! Thank you! It was an incredible trip! Absolutely breathtaking! I haven't had a chance yet to post my favorites...I mostly just posted what was on my phone. Seattle was a lot of fun! DH and I want to go back and just spend some time together in Seattle without his parents! Our 20 year wedding anniversary will be in a few more years. I'm thinking that might be a good place to go and celebrate.

Off to get gas and head home to work in the studio! I have several projects in the works that I'm trying to finish up for my show and custom orders. I need to shoot photos of some older work for the website and tag jewelry tonight as well.

What happens if she doesn't get a nap?

Pennee - if you find something in Brevard County, let me know and I might be able to tell you more about the area.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

we just got back from new England. a little antiquing in the Hudson Valley, some time in the Berkshires with family, and a wedding in Providence RI.
Our 26th anniversary is Thursday. Little does he know, that I'm planning for him to take me to dinner in Detroit, stay the night and go to the gem show the next day. bwahahaha. he'd rather go to the dentist and have his tooth pulled than go to the gem show with me!

That's too funny Sue. We are going to the movies tomorrow afternoon and dinner with friends. I think we're going to see White Boy Rick. Hope it's good. Not really that much out there that looks appealing but need some social time.

Antiquing in New England sounds MARVELOUS. And gem show sounds fantastic, too.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

Speaking of cold, I decided to not wear a hat on my bike this morning, and it was not a good decision. I did wear my new fancy helmet.

I'd love to go antiquing in New England. Or anywhere. :)

I just committed to buying an antique gingerbread cookie making wooden board. In Holland they traditionally used hand carved wooden boards with different patterns to make those cookies. Strangely enough you can't get hold of any new ones. What's up with that? You'd think that at least some shops would offer those.

That's very cool Esme, I don't think I've seen those before. I have 2 of those springerle rolling pins with cookie designs but no board like that!

Good morning.
Hi, LSue. Come back more often. You're missed around here.
Might have to snooze a bit more. I'm very sleepy.

Yay! Nobel Prize in Chemistry is in directed evolution and phage display. That is J's field of research, basically.

Frances Arnold (one of the laureates) is a great speaker. :)

Good morning. Snow stopped at 10 inches, now it's clear sky and 12F. Just like real winter…

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

The only ten inches of precipitation we'd be getting would be rain. Thankfully, it's going to be dry for a while. I hope the counties north of us will be able to dry out some more soon.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

Esme - the cookie mold looks fun. I’ve seen the rolling pins Pennee described but never used one.

CG!! 10 inches of snow?? Does anyone celebrate Halloween where you are? I guess they will have to dress like abominable snowmen. Are you completely finished with exterior work on your house. Is the heating system operational so you can work on the inside through the winter?

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

This snow will all melt, it's a month earlier than the earliest I've seen snow stay.

Only a bit of drywall and painting it left to do, and the flooring. I could move in now. Will be a transition period that will evolve as I wish.

I would love to have a house I designed. There would be a LOT of changes over this house.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

We designed the house we are in now...I redrew the plans from something that was already designed and we moved things around like we thought we would like. Now looking back, I wish we would have done some things differently.
