Good Afternoon! Busy here.
I had the saddle fitter out yesterday, so I took the day off to catch up at the barn. It was wonderful! The weather was really nice yesterday. Very fall in Oklahoma like (which means 70s instead of 90s). Back into the 90s this week. Plus...it was just nice to have a break from everyone for the day. Between vacation with the in-laws and DH to right back to work...I was ready for a little bit of quiet time.
I'm just catching up on the thread.
Pennee...I would have preferred to have started Hope as a 2 year-old...turned her out and then revisited at 4, but she was almost 4 when I bought her, so I didn't have a say in that process. She had been handled, but there were still a lot of gaps. It's not really a big issue...Andalusian's are very late to mature...so her 4 year-old body and mind are more like a 3 1/2. She just needs some time to grow and take a mental break.
Terri...OMG...a horse rearing and flipping over is one of my biggest fears. When Millie started rearing last year, the possibility of her flipping over came to mind, and it's a big reason why I started evaluating what was going on and we really started to dig to find out what the issue was. She has never been a horse that rears, so to have the behavior start up at such an advanced age, it was worth investigating. I will ride out a lot of things...but rearing is just not one of them. Much like Pennee...I've been tossed in the dirt, ran away with, had Millie spook and go 3 feet sideways to the next arena over once in a clinic (that was entertaining). Never experienced the water landing though.
Wow, CG...snow already! It seems early, but then again...it's already October. Same here, Gayle...we were in Alaska mid-September and you could feel the chill in the air. It was so beautiful, but I couldn't handle those temperatures. 40-50F to me is cold.
