Re: October, Now Open for Chat

We've done different houses over our life together and each one had different needs depending on where we were in our lives - kids, no kids, tennis or horses, snow climate or beach. There is not ONE of those that eventually I didn't want to change something in. Lifestyles change over time. We've done gut and remodels too. it's always fun for me. Right now I'm itching to do another one and if not, I am thinking about rearranging my studio. Our current house is not worth the $$$ it would take to do the things we'd like to do but wouldn't add too much to new construction. Never hurts to dream......

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

I was lucky to find plans for my house and a builder willing to work with an OCD. The changes I made before they started I am still happy with 22 years later. There are only a few minor things I would add or take away and all are non essential. W added so many upgrades after we moved in and over time. My last upgrade 7 years ago was my screened in deck and it was the best 20k I ever spent, I could live out there it's so me!
The good thing is too, housing prices never drop much in my area- more up than down so inside upgrades would b worth it- but I'm getting lazy about it

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

Our house is only about 25 years old but Florida climate is tough on things like the hurricane shutters don't work smoothly anymore. Now they manufacturer hurricane proof windows that don't even need shutters which would be costly to change but not add that much to new construction.

Flea meds for the cat, grocery shopping (SCHOOL STARTS BACK TOMORROW!!!), and went to FIL's to mow and move a few more branches to the enormous pile in front of his house. I am now full of pizza, and I burned 190 calories helping carry and stack wood.

I suppose I could try to finish the necklace I've got sitting in the kitchen.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

my house was built in 1977. I love it but every bathroom in this place needs a gutting and complete remodel. i'm trying to get to my master and my kitchen bathroom this yr. soooo expensive though. and I had to re-roof the place 2 yrs ago and this summer, replace all the gutters, have the big chimney tuck pointed, and an air conditioner. that doesn't leave much for the bathrooms. in fact, it leaves NOTHING for the bathrooms. so they never get done!
and all the windows are going to be repainted this fall. with older houses....this never ends. you never get to the fun stuff. it's always just about keeping the place standing and not leaking. lol.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

Ours is 1966, so I feel your pain. The kitchen still needs to be redone, but things keep happening to interfere. We need new windows, too, badly - ours are original to the house and soooooo inefficient.

And yes, thank you, THAT was an exciting sale. Then I came downstairs and K says, Mommy, your phone cha-chinged. Lol Another one came in a few minites ago. Apparently, my light is on.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

Good Afternoon! Popping in. I had a farrier appointment this morning, and I've been playing office catch-up all day!

Go Erin!!!! Congratulations!

I received my new logo yesterday and I love it! I need to download the files, then change my Facebook page and add the logo to a few places including the website. I feel all official.

Our house is pretty new...it was built 12 years ago, and this year is year 10 that we have lived in it. We are the first owners. :) I love my home, and there are just a few minor things I would change. However, we are getting to a point now where things are starting to show some wear and need replacing.

Coaching running tonight. It's warmed back up into the 90s. I was really enjoying the cooler temperatures.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

congrats on the milestone Erin

I started some new cabs. A few I can't decide which side to be the front, I've been playing with a shot plate and never really happy with the way they come out. They always look kind of rough to me.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

which shot plate Terri? For one of the larger shot plates I have, I found fine silver to come out so much nicer than sterling. I oiled mine then wiped it out. I just do what the directions say, tape it down good and whack away with a 3 lb brass hammer. When I want to do a lot of them- metal clay is the way I go- no way I am wrecking my wrist shoulder or elbow hammering a bunch of doo dads. One surgery was enough for me.
I keep waiting to hear when Jen is going to report tendonitis from all her hammering- unless she has a secret ergonomic method I don't know about- she hammers a ton

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

I've never had much luck with the shot plates. It seems like they always slip no matter what I try...and then the image just doesn't come out as well as I hope. Plus...all the hammering. I think I would invest in a hydralic press if I were to do a bunch. I like the fine silver or metal clay idea. I've been thinking about trying out metal clay for a few plates that I have.

Back to invoices...ugh. I'm tired of seeing numbers.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

These were smallish from buffalo Rutland. I only use fine silver but they never have as much detail as I think they should. I have his force tool and it helps and I also have lead I use to help push the silver down. Harbor freight has a 6 ton press for $70. I’m thinking about.

Thanks Erin. I was only able to get that one necklace and a set of earrings photographed today. I won't have time tomorrow, Friday or the weekend to do any more photos on the others, so it may be Monday before I can get to them.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

Good morning.
I have a big pile of pieces that need to be photographed and listed. Every morning I look at them and think, "I'm going to do that today," and at night, they are still there.
We're in summer this week, but fall will return next week. Can't wait.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

I might think about a hydraulic press for $70 but the big boys that cost hundreds up to 1000- no thanks. My friend that runs a machine shop said those Indian made dies are no good in the press, the block should be even and some of those are really wonky. I took a few over he wanted to see and just handed them back to me and said- nope

Bracelet resized. Go me.

I gotta cut out some bronze bangles - someone ordered a set of three yesterday afternoon. I wish I could use the bench shear, but it distorts the 1/4" blanks too much.

Funny you mention that Pennee. I have recently been feeling pretty beat up after working lately. I had a little bit of numbness a couple weeks ago ☹️ I try to take breaks between working to heal up though.

I use metal clay for my India shot plates. The only ones I hammer are the big mandalas and birds.

Re: October, Now Open for Chat

Metal clay. Duh. I have some I picked up in August at the Knife Works. Metal clay.

Do you press the clay into the plates and then fire, Jen?
