Re: Chatty Metalsmiths January Thread

Marcus, some things do improve with age. That 'wear patina' is hard to replicate. I've tried.

I was fortunate with the store, even though in a tourist town about half my customers were local, and knowing you had a street address where they could always find you kept a lot of focus on wearability.

Another benefit was having a few customers who I knew well and would give a pair of 'new idea' earrings, or something, to test for me. Saves making a bunch of things that were stupid. Just had to make one stupid thing.

Re: Chatty Metalsmiths January Thread

I wish I had a real metal smith shop around here. We have bead places, but no real metal shop.

Re: Chatty Metalsmiths January Thread

I know....I already bought one. shoulda waited, heh.

Yeah this shop, it's great to have it local. I can get a reasonable price on copper sheet, it's not a total gouge. But any sterling? I have to be desperate. Solder is pretty reasonable. They have a ton of flux/enameling stuff, files, rouges/polishing. All the foundation things you need or use a lot.
i try to support them because it is great to have them around. but for sterling of anysort? I just can't. they are always 10-15 an ounce above what I can get online.

Hi Esme! That's a gorgeous ring! Your leaves get me every time:)

My views have been horrible, especially on the new things that should be getting more attention since they're closer to the top of the 9 million pieces of jewelry here. It's depressing.

Re: Chatty Metalsmiths January Thread

that's some kind of eyecandy!

morning ladies!

how are you holding up with all of that snow shoveling laura? so hard.........

Esme, That method you do with pmc, painting items for firing. Would it be possible to do this with a horse tooth? It's rather large. How many coats do you typically need to paint on? Perhaps I should mail you the tooth and see if you would do something like this?
