Hahaha! DH says that the goose looks like something pulled from the catacombs. He's right!

Does anyone remember the old George C Scott Jane Eyre?

*Went around the house yelling "JANE!!!" in my best Scott voice for weeks afterward.*

No Sh!t!! And I followed directions exactly; 350, water in bottom of pan, cover, 22 min per pound unstuffed. The wings are the most horrific looking. Dh says a cross between a bat and mummy. Think Nosferatu.

I'll have to look for the George C. Scott version. Is it good?

Good luck with it, Laura. You know I can never let well enough alone....

I will look better to the wearer if the hook side is on the outside of the hand, so they're not looking at the edge of the other side. Opinion, only and absolutely..

Re: Chatting into a New Year! January 2012 Chat Thread

The ring or the goose? lol

I'm sure you'll hold my hand when I fail tomorrow. But I'm the optimistic type so who knows how it will go. I trust you know your design but there's always that hope.

DH looked at the goose again and started to talk about "The Pit and the Pendulum". Great. The word "skeletal" has been used a few times as well.

Re: Chatting into a New Year! January 2012 Chat Thread

"George C. Scott version. Is it good?"

It is one of those things where expectations continually change. I do remember thoroughly enjoying it at the time. (But hiding said enjoyment undr several layers of regional and gender related 'false' bravado.")

Amy was telling me that she recently with a group of female friends discussing both the movie (pretty sure it was Eyre) and their husbands natural aversions to such movies. Amy felt left out in some sort of 'reverse discrimination' type way. She felt like a university student desperately looking for some common way that The Man was oppressing her.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Been a *very* long time since I dealt with a goose carcass, but if I remember correctly, best to cover longer per per lb than chicken or turkey, but be careful of the amount of pan water, then make sure the skin carmelizes well -- hit it quick and hard at the end with a very hot (from the top) oven -- almost like a tandoori oven.
Re: Chatting into a New Year! January 2012 Chat Thread
I've been researching and chatting with people about several different types of torches. After hearing that Map/oxy is sooty and the EZ torch (propane/air) is unreliable, I'm rethinking my choice to stay away from acetylene.
So now I'm looking at acetylene torches and wonder what brands you guys (who use acetylene) use.
Re: Chatting into a New Year! January 2012 Chat Thread
Would have to say that MAPP/oxy tends to fit my style more that anything else I have tried. Like propane/oxy, but just a little hotter and more 'precise'.
Also, I've found a used air/acetylene torch (Smith brand) on ebay. Would it be stupid to buy one if it's listed as in good condition?
Re: Chatting into a New Year! January 2012 Chat Thread
Thanks Marcus. I actually have a Mapp/oxy sitting on the table, waiting for me to decide what to do with it.
Rachel - the acetlyene/oxy was better?
Sheryl, I have a propane/air Little Torch and have never found it unreliable, except when I didn't know that I had to clean the tips periodically. I love it. Good luck on your decision.
Re: Chatting into a New Year! January 2012 Chat Thread
Sheryl just the ez torch is bad any other torch is fine. I actually prefer the oxy/propane it's just the way the nozzle of the ez torch plugs up that hazardous. and I'm not the only one with issues. I can't remember if it was wanye but the torch repair guy at otto frei even said everyone just blows out the gunk with compressed air and moves on ... for me I refused to work with it after my third experience of it turning into a dripping burning flame thrower.
