I'm popping in. Thins are going to settle down here....#1 started kindergarten yesterday and tomorrow she will start her full days. Freaky.

I'll be a regular chatter. :)

Just the opposite will happen here Ann. The 4 year old (who happens to be named Isaac) starts preschool next week. He has to be there at 8 three days a week. So il have to keep the two year old occupied in the mornings (he's gonna miss his buddy). Then I have to head to work @3 most days of the week, come home at 9 and crash because I have to wake up early as hell in the morning to get the 4 year old to school and on a regular schedule again...I have until Friday to change him to an afternoon class, but then he won't be with his friends, and he's a shy sensitive boy...it will take him half the year to get used to new people. Next years gonna be even more rough one in preschool, one in kindergarden. Lots of driving :(

I'm off to an after work activity with work people. Playing pétanque, or whatever it's called, and then dinner. It's a bit cold outside. I brought a cardigan, a scarf, and fingerless gloves and I hope it's gonna be enough.

Ann - are you emotional about first day of kindergarten like I was??

We had THE WORST first day. I was stressed out and they got in a huge fight while I was in the shower...#2 came in crying so I flew off the handle at #1...lots of yelling...all three of us crying...it was a nightmare. Excellent, 'eh? So I sat in my car sobbing and trying to talk to Ben after I dropped them off. It was truly terrible. The kids rallied before we even left the house but I felt miserable about the whole thing for the rest of the day. I did get some great pics though so that's good. I'll upload them to flickr later.

Today was much better. Still a half day so I have to get into my studio!!

Sounds rough Ann. My daughter was very shy when she was young. She was crying hysterically when I had to leave her the first day... and almost everyday afterwards for several months. Heart wrenching.

Thanks for the kindness, Kim! I have so many new pieces to list but no time to take pictures. I'm thrilled that I didn't have a HUGE slow-down this summer but the down side to that is not having a ton of time to make pieces for my 2 fall shows.

Sue - do you do shows all summer? I remember seeing your name in the Art on the Mall show last year...I didn't do that one this year....

That sounds horrible Anna,
Isaac is shy, but he only cried a couple of times last year. It took him until christmas break to feel comfirtable enough to actually "experiance" school. Even after he adjusted, the teacher said he needed to work on things he has known since he was two, he just doesnt respond to the teacher is my guess, doesnt want to "show off" what he knows. He's a lot like me. I remember the stress of preschool and daycare (I grew up in daycare). I remember when I was 5 and we moved, I switched day cares....I remember that first day, I just stood in the same spot for most of the day, all the other kids just ignoring me....ugh, horrible! My kids will NEVER go to daycare...that's why I have the stooped job I have and the hubby works the graveyard shift, it's allows us to raise our own kids.

wow, christen, you live right by me. monclova (for you threadies who don't know) is really a suburb of toledo. sorry christen if you don't see it that way :) no offense meant of course. i don't do shows all summer although i do art on the mall every yr and do ann arbor. i sporadically do others but nothing else really. i mainly sell thru the museum and galleries, with occasional home shows and other outside venues. i am not a full time metalsmith, it is just my hobby, shall we say.

cats get eaten here too. luckily my dog doesn't let anything come into the yard or fly over, barks at birds that are just a dot in the sky. she considers this a no fly zone.

we have fishers here too Wendy. they look like little disneyland creatures. I've only seen one one time.

I took photos of Dylan this morning on his first day of 5th grade, but he insisted on making weird faces and putting socks on his ears... yes. thats what I said.

I did manage to scrape by with one or two "normal" photos... I'll have to see if I can make them do.

Nothing gets by our dogs either. They even occasionally bark when a leaf falls on our skylight.

Hi Sue - no offense at all! I lived in Toledo for 7 years when I first got married and my husband is from Toledo. I am originally from Pennsylvania.

I don't know if we've met. Seems we should have run across each other at some point! I can't believe you do Ann Arbor! I've heard horror stories so I'm not brave enough to do it! I'm doing Black Swamp and Rally for the Arts (Perrysburg) this year...that's ALL!

We should meet sometime if we end up doing the same show..... :)

I don't know of any shows worth doing in Montreal. We have one huge show that lasts a month just before Christmas for all things artisan... costs something like $10,000 to get in... clearly, not for me.

i go to black swamp sometimes but i don't do it. i go for the music :)
yeah, seems like we should have met somewhere. ann arbor is the biggest nightmare endurance contest in history of shows. even the pros who do nothing but the show circuit all summer have trouble surviving ann arbor. you should do it just once in your lifetime though. haha. just to be able to say you did it and lived.

Jen - it breaks my heart when I hear about kids being ignored by other kids. We switched schools when Sarah finished grade three. Took a full year for the other kids to start including her. Thank God she made one new friend that first year. She was also new.
