@GielDesigns @Lionfishvintage

Just imagine the kind of teen years I had, that my nickname in high school was the nun. I was not allowed to talk to the boys, not even the boys in the church...

@SwissZahlerArt  So because they were so strict , did you rebel and become wild?

Sometimes when parents have a tight rein on us, it backfires!!

It sure did with me and my siblings.funny gif of girl dancing

Re: Remember when....

I guess I was the 'wild' one in my family with 4 siblings. I was the oldest and just plain had a mind of my own! My 4 younger sisters all paid the price for my 'freedom' of growing up. My parents were a lo-t-t-t stricter with them. Not that I got into any trouble, but let's just say I never got caught!

when... we had to reserve the airplane ticket a few months in advance?

... it was normal and not against the law or Psychology to assign chores to the kids?

Speaking of time, remember when there was a phone number you could call to get the correct time?

Yup. I wonder if cell phones did away with that.

Contribution from my  husband.

- all the food you got at the baseball park was a small paper bag of peanuts, a simple hot dog and a soda pop

- Fridays pay day, a pain in the _____ long lines at the bank to cash the check

-  you had to do a phone call and ALL of the phone booths were busy

-  the parking meter was a nickel or a dime

-  first thing to do to try to conquer a girl was to offer to carry her notebooks, but do it the day she did not check out books at the library nor she was carrying a dictionary

Re: Remember when....

Out of the blue questions - (1)    In the old forums there was a fellow who always asked or answered in an old fashioned sea captain kind of way. Who was that? (2) do any of you remember the "thread killer" conversations? Did any of you ever admit that you put yourself on that list?

Just looking back with questions in my head ...:).

Re: Remember when....

Was that Salty? His shop name is saltys pirate den. He is still here

Or maybe it was another guy who called himself cap'n.

For some reason he was banned from Etsy or the forums or something. Although i don't know why cause he was the nicest man! I don't think his shop is here anymore.

I remember the thread killer !

Re: Remember when....

Thank you! When it is hard to go to sleep, my mind can wander into - "the where are theys and what happened to tos?"

salty? Yes,but I cannot imagine him being taken off Etsy- although the forums started getting very snarky.  I believe they took the forums down because of the meanness and pettiness that started going around. There are those that I really miss.

Re: Remember when....

@collecteddust  No it wasn't salty who was banned from forums

It was the other guy who also talked like a sailor. Cap'n something.

Re: Remember when....

I had some nice friends on the old forum, one lady in particular "Crafty" I don't remember the name of her shop but I'm pretty sure it had "craft" or "crafts" in it. I can't remember her real name. We would PM each other from time to time. I sure miss her. I had no idea that so many of my friends would drop off the map. I believe they may have left Etsy entirely.

Re: Remember when....

I think I know who you are talking about. Did she live in NY or Mass and she had two children? She used to tell us what she was cooking- yum. It was crafty DBA or are you thinking about the lady who made towels & aprons?

Re: Remember when....

I remember she said she was born to a 15 year old unwed mother....and yes, she did have two children, a boy around 9 and a 12 year old girl with special needs that she had to pull out of school and get a therapist for because she was getting bullied so bad. She said these things on the old forum so I think it's OK to repeat them. And she was a real pretty blond, her avatar showed her face. I remember talking to her on the forum about hair coloring because we both colored our hair and spent a lot of money on it, but it was an "essential" indulgence for us.

I wish I could remember what she made in her store. My mind tells me it was either paper or fabric. Her sales were decent.

Oh, I remember she did live in New England, I can't remember whether it was Mass or Conn but it was definitely one of the New England states.

Re: Remember when....

@psych62I started a thread about crafty to see if anyone can say more about her. I hope I'm wrong about her possibly passing away.
