I remember my mom putting a bowl of boiling water in the freezer to help melt while she chipped away the built up ice. She needed to do this every couple weeks. Frost-free freezers hadn't been invented yet.
By the 80's, I read in a magazine to use the manual hair dryer for this purpose.

Magazines have gotten so expensive! When I was young I used to buy glamour/beauty magazines regularly. I haven't purchased a magazine for over 15 years. Not even to read on an airplane. Same with newspapers, I used to buy the paper every day.
...ghosts were unpopular. "Ghost hunting" existed, but not at the high sky level like nowadays. A hunted house, apparitions or paranormal activities were really rare.
...you did not have to show and ID to buy fireworks for 4th of July or New Year celebrations.
