Remember when... the pictures were black and white or sepia.  We were little kids and wanted the colors of the beautiful dress shown on the picture, and took color pencils and tried to color the dress on the picture.  Yes, we ended up ruining the picture...

Re: Remember when....

Remember when... the simple things made us happy.  For example seen a new rose blooming, take the family to the river, play there, have sandwiches under the trees shadow.  As kids, how happy we were playing even with humble toys like an empty can of vegetables or pushing each other in a wood box pretending it was a car. Have an extra person at the family table, could be a neighbor, a classmate or a relative.

What happen to those happy feelings?

Re: Remember when....

Probably my favorite memory is the time when I was about 8 years old when my fever finally broke after about 5 days of being sick. My mother planned a picnic in the park, which was fabulous because I was cooped up inside for what seemed like forever. She drove us to the park, which had plenty of soft green grass and a pond with white ducks. We ate turkey and swiss sandwiches and enjoyed the sun and the surroundings. The weather was perfect - not too hot, not too cold, and not muggy. I believe it was late Spring. It was such a glorious day, I remember wishing that it would go on forever. But now here I am, 50 years later. The day ended, but it still sticks in my mind.

How did the soap opera end? When I was already 18, any day I ran into my husband, who just came back from serving in the military. We run into each other on the sidewalk, started to talk and got married in a week... we are still married some decades ago.

Re: Remember when....

Good times!! Even though it was crap food.

In 1968, gas was about 25 cents a gal. We would dig into the seat crevices to find change to fill up the car.

@Lionfishvintage

Yes, it was definitely crap food but I thought it was delicious back then, lol! In those days, a group of us would go to McDonalds after school almost every Friday. We always had such a good time. As I think about it, it was so long ago that they still had ashtrays on the tables for smokers. Yikes! :- D

Re: Remember when....

@Lionfishvintage did you ever "cruise" with your friends aimlessly on Summer nights, as a teenager? I can't believe we used to do that, but yes, gas was that cheap. We usually made a pit stop at the local diner for hunks of cherry cheesecake. The diner still exists, although substantially remodeled.

Re: Remember when....

I remember going to Baskin-Robbins after school when I was in high School (sorry if this is a tangent, thought I'd mention rising prices) and a chocolate malt was 75 cents. Then it went up to 90 cents, Then it went up to a dollar. I said to myself "My God! If it goes over a dollar I'm going to stop buying these." Then it went up to $1.10. Then $1.25. I kept on buying. But then the prices began to bound out of control like a runaway train. I did stop buying. Now a malt is something like 5 dollars, not including tax. I haven't purchased a chocolate malt since I was a teenager. I have a malt-mixer at home and can make them myself if I want (but hubs usually drinks them, I don't have a teenage figure anymore).

Re: Remember when....

@psych62Oh yes we cruised every weekend in friends parents yellow mustang

. It was really hot in the summer and we had all the windows open. What a blast. All the hippie music playing. Led Zep, The Doors, Mamas & Papas, Luvin Spoonful.... what a great time.

Hey I LOVED Mc D's fries. Still do. Although i don't eat fast food anymore. But my mouth waters just thinking about them.

We ate at Mc D's all the time as well as Jack in the Box and Der weinerschnitzel.

Re: Remember when....

Speaking of cars, remember when we were teens and owning a car was a big deal?

I visited my High School not to long ago and the student parking lot was chock full of new and newer model cars that I'm certain were given to the teen by parents. In my day, the person that had a car was the fortunate one. One had to accumulate the money for a car, which inevitably was a cheap used "bomb" like a 1972 Ford LTD with a hole through the floor pan. Yes, it was true, and me and my friends called it The Flintstone-mobile because you could literally stick your foot through the hole in the car floor, it was that large. That was the cruiser. One night it stalled and one of my friends poured 151 rum in the gas tank to try to make it to the nearest gas station. It worked! My friend bragged that he made a car rum on Bacardi, but the truth was, the rum simply pushed the residual gas left in the fuel line into the tank, enabling it to get a teeny bit more mileage. True story.

@psych62

Holy kamoley! A rum car!! what a great story.

As I was reading that you put it in the tank , i figured the next thing you would say was that the engine was destroyed or something.

Amazing that it worked.

Yeah people who had cars back then were waaaay cool. Now, at the high school near me, lots of kids have beemers and mercedes. And they don't know how to drive . LOts of complaints from the neighbors.

@GielDesigns  @Lionfishvintage  @psych62  You have happy teenagers memories!  I lived like in Middle Age. One of my old classmates told me "it was a shame my mother did not allow me to live the youth years like any other youth. "

@SwissZahlerArt

You sound a bit like my mother. Her and my father both had parents that were pretty strict. I think that's why they gave me and my brother more freedom.
