Good way to seal paper over metal?

I have been making flasks for a while now in a couple of my shops, but am changing my technique and want to find the best sealer.
Until now I have been painting them black, sticking the image down, and then coating the whole thing with mod podge.
I want to stop painting them black because it gives them a texture that some people don't like. What I am planning is to wrap the image across the front and part way around the back, and then seal the whole thing with something pretty heavy duty and water/alcohol proof.
I am itching to get working on the new ones, so any ideas are very much appreciated!!

How do you make your images? Would a solvent based sealer bleed the image?

Usually I spray the image with a sealer and let it dry before putting the mod podge over the top. That keeps it from bleeding.

IDK. The tough part seems to be alcohol-resistance/proof. Maybe you'll have to do your own testing?

Ya, I have started testing it with water. Now I have to see what happens when I pour alcohol on the image.
I thought about using Spar Varnish, but that stuff is pretty nasty to work with.

Re: Good way to seal paper over metal?

crow,
does it not work to just stick down to the metal w/ modpodge?

you can use image transfer solution (need to reverse your image though) in that case the white part of image will show the metal after you remove the paper.

i'm not sure if the color would be affected by alcohol, might still need varnish

btw, i looked at your shop to see what you meant by 'flask', you might want to read up on copyright law, some of your images might be copyright protected
dover publications is good source for copyright free images

You can use artist spray adhesive to stick the image to the bottle. I spray, then wrap with several elastic hair holders until the glue cures.

Then you can use devcon 2 part epoxy(doesnt yellow), applying with a sponge brush to seal. Gives a lovely high gloss finish.

VERY durable. VERY nice finish. hope this helps!
