I was dinged for a late shipment that could not be shipped until the day after Memorial Day. The holiday was not accounted for in Etsy's calculation for on-time shipping. Can this be corrected?
Deep down, I think it is irrelevant that Etsy doesn't recognize that mail services may not be available during holidays. What you need to do is always look at the ship by date for the order. If you are unable to ship by that date, you can change it to a later date. This won't hurt your star seller metrics. As for getting it corrected by Etsy, it is doubtful.
No, they will not change anything manually. Etsy is a worldwide site, so does not recognize any holidays, since that would be way too many holidays.
I just had this happen from an order yesterday morning, with same day shipping I got dinged for not having it shipped on a federal holiday.
You got dinged because you did not extend the ship by date even though you had the opportunity to do so.

How to update the “ship by” date for an order
You can edit the “ship by” date once, as long as the original "ship by" date hasn't passed, and the buyer has agreed to the new date.
How to set the processing time for an item

Updated version: Processing times and “ship by” dates are determined by your order processing schedule, which can be set to include weekends. If a ship-by date falls on a Sunday, it will automatically be bumped to the next business day.
If a “ship by” date falls on a holiday, you can update the date once per order.
Old version: Processing times and “ship by” dates are determined using business days and don’t include weekends, but may include holidays. If a “ship by” date falls on a holiday, you can update the date once per order.

You are not taking into account same day shippers or next day shippers.

This really needs to be looked into by etsy and is a huge oversight.

@LapidaryCentral: Is there such a thing on Etsy as "same day shipping"? With a processing time of the minimum 1 day doesn't the order have a scheduled ship by date of the following day? So that still gives you time to update the scheduled ship by date if you cannot ship on or before the scheduled date, whatever the reason.
Etsy is a world wide venue. It wasn't a holiday in France...England....Japan
It's always a holiday somewhere - we need to watch it and change the shipping date if needed
Etsy isn't going to change anything - it works the way it is.
