postage labels not available with Canada Post

I am unable to print a postage label from Canada to USA this morning.  I contacted support and they said it may be a technical issue, to just wait a while and try again.  I have the Unable to purchase labels notice on my shipping screen.  Anyone else have this issue?  I am in Northern Ontario, Canada

@MyNeedleCrafts It's really unfortunate that Etsy couldn't be bothered to tell us the new prices. Canada Post told me what was changing on my personal account - why couldn't Etsy? 

I am sorry that some people are losing money on shipping.

over 100 grams has gone up over a dollar.  $9.82 now.

I thought I read somewhere US prices were going down and Canadian going up.

@UppNorthCo For tracked packet, my own prices and Shippo's prices both went down. 

Etsy had a really sweet deal on the US labels alone, and I guess it was only for a limited time. Maybe they were not maintaining the needed level of Canada Post label buyers. Who knows? 

It would have been nice if Etsy had warned us of the actual prices instead of just linking us to the CP announcement page which had nothing on what Etsy's label prices were going to be.

@cindylouwho2  - how many shipping companies do you use?  I just signed up for shippo.  filled in all the info for this package.  $9.76 tracked packet.  etsy new rate is $9.82.

@UppNorthCo I use several different shipping companies, but was quoting US tracked packet under 100 g from CP. That's the one that Etsy had a special deal on. 

Shippo used to be a lot more than Etsy, now it is a few cents less for me, even with the 7 cents CAD per label under 30 per month. I just raised my Etsy shipping prices & will continue using them for Etsy orders, I think. The price difference is currently negligible, but it used to be quite a lot more in the other direction.

etsy had deals on all the rates up to 2 kg.

@UppNorthCo yes, but the 100 g rate to the US was the best. And Shippo had better rates to elsewhere as well as domestic; Etsy was only good for the US.

I haven't had time to test all the other rates yet; I will be interested to see how much it changed.

I just printed a label also and yes prices have gone up significantly for me also.

@UppNorthCo I don't use Canada Post to ship to the US, but in the PDF Canada Post released on the price changes, they said the US rate was going down, so it's odd that they raised it...

"On June 26, 2025, we are implementing new rates for Parcel Services. This year, the weighted average price change is just under 1% for Domestic Parcels, 1.6% for International Parcel Services and -3% for USA Parcel Services."

@PoochandTabby as far as I can tell, looking at different conversations on this today, the only place CP raised the US rate was here on Etsy, because Etsy had a lower rate than almost every other label provider before now.

Ebay's Canada post rates were already lower than here.

I figured it was because they buy way more postage.

Maybe etsy is buying less postage than before.  Did you already say that Cindylou?

@UppNorthEh that was one of my guesses, yes. 

At one point the Etsy tracked packet to the US price was better than eBay, at least under 100 g. Can't speak to the past year, though.

@cindylouwho2 Could it be that Etsy is adding a 'handling fee' or something of the sort to the CP postage rate so they could get a cut on each one sold, making the end rate higher than everywhere else?

@PoochandTabby Etsy always gets a cut, as does every other label provider.

I really suspect they lost their preferred rate, though. Doubt they are jacking the price this much on their own.

I ended up shipping 2 orders from the CP office this afternoon, tracked to US under .1kg, $9.01 each, that's after my discount, regular would be $13.80

Just a heads up - Small Packet is the top default shipping option now.  It has been Tracked Packet forever.  I bought a small packet this morning.  realized my mistake when the label looked different.  Tried to get a refund right away.  Nope, have to wait an hour.  Well it's been many hours now and I get a big red banner that it can't be refunded and to contact "support."  I'm sure I won't be the only one making this mistake.  crappy etsy cash grab.

@UppNorthCo huh, my default was tracked packet when I bought last night. Thanks for the heads up! 

Canada Post will not be refunding labels any more with this recent change, because they won't be charging us upfront. Labels will only get charged going forward when they are scanned. We can't request an older label refund on our personal accounts until July 2. 

Possibly Etsy won't refund sellers now until it is clear from Canada Post that the label was never used.

When I checked last night it was small packet on top.  Obviously bought the label too early this morning.  before coffee.

My payment account shows I have been charged for 2 labels today.  I will keep trying for the refund.

Made this mistake yesterday on 10 Parcels! called right away they said the refund has to come from CP and can take up to 15 Days and I should see it in my etsy payment account. That sounds very suspicious to me and i will believe it when i see it. Not one etsy support knows what they are doing. So much money in fees and nobody to help!

I haven't gotten the refunds yet but I called to get them but they did say they it would take 10-15 days

Same here. I could see Etsy getting frustrated with all the recent strike talk.

I can't wait for Canada Post to be privatized. Loss of time, loss of money.

Royal Mail was privatized in 2013.  It still loses millions of dollars, can't achieve its delivery targets, and had several strikes.  

Plus Canada isn't as densely populated as the UK, so a private company is unlikely to deliver to remote places for an affordable amount, which is one of Canada Post's problems.
